a little backstory first. Last year when I was having gastric problems, something popped up on my Facebook feed. A new company, UBiome, was offering to test gut bacteria at no charge to the customer and they promised not to "back bill" if your ins refused to pay. I thought "What could it hurt", maybe I'd get some answers. I didn't send it in right away and a few weeks ago they emailed me, nudging me to send it in. So I did. The results came in today. My guts are seriously defective. Lol. It seems I am totally, 100% lacking in the bacteria that promotes weight loss. I've been saying all along that I was incapable of losing weight. I was right! Also no lactobacillus or bifidobacterium. Anyway. I'm going to take all this to the gastroenterologist at my next appt. Maybe we can devise a strategy to restore my gut bacteria. And jump start my body to start losing weight. In the meantime, fiber, fiber, fiber (psyllium husk preferred), more yogurt, low carb diet (at least I got something right). This was a very interesting test. I may do it again in a year.

I had the same test done…and I am very low in the same bacteria so I have been doing lots to restore it. Kombucha tea, homemade fermented veggies and a probiotic supplement. I have no idea if it will help me lose weight but I have to try it anyway. I practically starve myself to lose a few lbs. ugh!

When I get paid next week, I'm going to invest in a really good probiotic and I'm going to start making my own yogurt. I don't see me eating fermented foods though. I know what you mean. I don't feel like I eat a lot, but nothing happens.

I did not know that gut bacteria inhibits weight loss. Very interesting!
I did recently read an article that stated low gut flora has a direct link to depression.
I hope your Dr. can help you. I know how hard you've tried!
Please let us know what plan you come up with.

I didn't either. And this company wasn't trying to sell me anything either. They also have tests for other things. I think the Dr will probably have some good ideas about this, though previously he's been a calories in calories out person. Eat less, lose weight. If I eat less, I Won't be eating at all!
