Dr says sugar level was high on last visit (A1C 6.2). He has me taking metformin 250mg daily. (1/2 tablet) I’ve started eating healthier but can’t seem to get constant readings. Fastings stay in low 100’s, one high reading of 116. Fasting readings average out to 103.6 mg/dL over the past month. My question is - does that dosage seem right. I’ve been taking it for a month now and will be retested in 2months. Would appreciate suggestions to help lower over night levels. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome
that is an extremely low dose of metformin. metformin can take 6-8 weeks before you see its full effect. also, fasting numbers are almost always the last number to come "under control".
when you say that you are eating "healthier", what does that mean?
are you testing before and after meals in order to see how the foods eaten are affecting your blood glucose?
if appropriate are you trying to lose any excess weight?

Thanks for responding. I’ve stopped eating fried foods and sweets and now eat more salads and I love green vegetables. I’m still trying to find a diet that I will be able to stick with. I’m 5’8” and I weigh 190. I am slowly losing weight. I also walk 1 hour everyday. These are my fasting numbers for the last 2 weeks - 113; 113; 96; 109; 111; 100; 116; 115; 101; 96; 95; 103; 105; 108.
