I was excited this morning as my fasting bg was 97. Because i was awake an hour before mynusual waking time, I did not eat. However, I had a cup of coffee with 2/3 of a serving of sugar free coffeemate ( I know it is not the healthiest thing to use). It has 2 g carns in a serving. Something made me check my bg again an hour after drinking the coffee. My bg was 143. Any thought on why this happened? I am still playing around with what works for me. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes just the caffeine alone, although it has no carbs could raise blood sugar for some of us. Experiment and try it black 2 time just to see , everybody is different.

I've experienced the same thing & my Dr. said it was the "Dawn Syndrome." I wake up take a reading say ~125 (wake up 5:00 am) then 3 hours later w/o eating just a couple of cups of 1/2 caf coffee it'll read 95-100! Two hours after breakfast I'll read 122-135 depending on what I eat.

Hello, I'm 35 years old and I'm 5'8 135lbs..my mom's dad had and died from diabetes.. And for years now I've had issues with my bg being low.. I can always tell because I all of a sudden get very shaky, dizzy, hot, about pass out etc. Well lately it's worse, I feel like I can't catch my breath and like I'm going to pass out..i was tested at a Dr and she didn't tell me what my a1c was, she said I was OK but yet everytime I feel this way I have the nurse at my work test me, and it's anywhere from 50-56 and 30 minutes after eating some sweets and juice.. It is like 58-60.Ia that considered low? And if so why won't the Dr do anything? I feel SO awful after each time.. Takes me a good 12hrs before I feel normal. Should I see a different Dr? I bought a monitor and strips myself to start checking daily. Any advice would be great cuz Dr at the hospital even told me that 60 is normal and no way I felt bad having a 58 or even 60..but I know how I feel.. Am I crazy lol?

Hi, could be Dawn Syndrome. I used to check my FBS about 5.15AM which was 15 mins after waking and i would get anywhere between 83 to 95 and would think excellent. I started taking it around 7.00 to 8.00 AM and realized that my readings were between 101 to 110 without eating. So my exprience was i should take my readings a bit before 8.00AM to see the effects of DS not earlier
