I am on an AF/VA pension (Gulf War1) and am so far still able to work, although I moved from AZ to ID 5 yrs ago for med & personal reasons. I have sole, personal, legal custody of my now almost 10 yr old grandson (due to death of mom & drug use of dad, my son) - I have had him since he was 2 wks old.

After an aortic-valve replacement & a Whipple procedure (05 & 06), I developed Type 1 Diabetes after treatment for a sinus infection (developing C-Diff and my pancreas just went on permanent vacation (early 13).

I want to work, just not at all-consuming/ can I please take over jobs like I had in the past (go in as dispatcher & 6 mos. later I'm Project Manager/or go in as AP & 1yr later I'm CFO) Please, please don't think I'm bragging, I just want a job where I can go in, say HI, do my job, maybe have a little after-work socializing & go home, but am constantly being told I'm 'over-qualified'. (Is that the new 'you're too old?')

I have a grandson to support, and we are on 2 totally different diets. He has ADHD Combined Type/Meth-induced & I am type 1, but I am on a fixed income and because I have worked so hard to main-stream him, he doesn't qualify for SSI, but he is underweight because of meds, and I have DT1. When I buy food, I buy for him first, so my diet usually suffers.

How can I resolve this?

What you eat he will, it's what's in the house right? Too soon he will eat everything and the boxes that it came in too. Great white sharks, pirannah, they have nothing on a teen age boy(s).

If his meds are causing the weight or appetite suppression, talk to his doctor and explain it. There are a host of new ADD meds without those side effects now. Talk to your pharmacist get an idea, or have them call his MD and save yourself a trip.

He may not eat the Brussels sprouts you love but the lack of some junk food garbage he "loves" ain't gonna kill him physically. Bottom line you do not need some 2nd diet for him per se, more of it likely but nothing special because of your disease

Thank you for your service. I am also an AF Vet retired in 1995. My heart goes out to you. I just do not understand why you can not get assistance for him since his mom passed away etc. I know here in OK you would. Maybe there is some organization that can help you in your community. My prayers are with you. Carol
