Counting Carbs

Was wondering if there is a book or something that tells you how many carbs are in what foods? I'll check with my new doctor on Tuesday, but am also curious as to how many carbs I should have per day? I guess it's time to get educated on this subject…after all, it's my life!

Julie, you can find it at bookstores or you can get it at CalorieKing.com

Also as a basic diet start. My dieticians have always said for women 45-60 grams of carbs per meal and 15-30 grams per snack. Some will tell you to go much lower than that or cut them out completely but that is the standard. A serving (like one slice of bread) is 15 grams of carbs generally. At least it's a start

If you Google the Glycemic Index, it is a great help to see which carbs are better than others. 15 mg of carbs equals 1 serving, 5 or less is free. Weh I ws first diagnosed 13 years go I was told that I could have 12 servings of carbs per day but that may have changed over the years. See if your new doctor will get you to see a nutritionist. They are a great help. Tell them that you want help in formulating a eating plan that says x carbs for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks. Good luck with your new doctor.

I use Spark Pages to enter all my foods thati eat and it gives me the carbs and the protien etc. It also adds iot all up for the day and you can print it out.

Will check into Sparks Pages. I agree about finding something that we don't have to pay extra for!! The cost of test strips is bad enough!!

We must me thinking the same thing today! I was going to post about how many carbs per meal.Where can I get a list of good and bad carbs?Also I am wondering about the food exchanges and to see if this might be the way to start. I am use to measuring my food but I want to know how much to place on my plate.So lets have a glass of tea while we wait for the info to start pouring in.This is my #1 source of information and ideas, and they haven't let me down yet!!!!

Good information coming in! I had a Diet Mountain Dew instead of the tea!! I never understood the lingo of food exchanges. I just thought I'd give up bread and pasta, along with desserts, and I'd be OK…wrong!!!! I do have much to learn. Especially like the suggestion of talking with a nutritionist.
