I am new to this forum and not even sure how to use everything correctly yet, but wanted to introduce myself. My name is Monica, I am a caregiver to my 4 yr old son John, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 23 months. We've just passed our 2 yr anniversary with diabetes and it's taken that long for it to become a "normal" part of our life. I still stress about it, but not like I did when it was new. He's currently still on injections of Lantus and Humalog. I want to get him the new smaller Omnipod but it's still waiting on FDA approval, last I heard. We have an awesome medical team of a pediatric endocrinologist & her nurse, also a fantastic pediatrician who does family practice the old fashioned way, so she's actually also my doctor as well as my other kids' too. We live in northeast PA and I'm always looking for other families to connect with.

Hey moonpye and welcome. I have a four year old little boy myself. Those toddlers, they are something huh? Mine is priceless as I know yours is. I myself am on a pump, I use the animas ping and it is great. The omnipod part I don't get, because I could of gotten one but chose a ping. I don't get the FDA thing I know a few babies that have one. I think I would check with another company. My pump is small and has a remote. But they are all kind of options. Let me know if you need some help. By the way your baby if soooo cute.

I tried calling Omnipod directly to find out what the hold up was, and the customer service rep told me she couldn't tell me anything before FDA approval.. not even what they were waiting for approval on. She told me to sign up for their newsletter and I'd get a notification when it was ready… that was over a year ago and I've gotten not one newsletter. lol So, who knows?

Yes, that is Johnny in the picture. He's a sweet little guy. :-)

Welcome! I just found this site a week or two ago and am addicted. It's great!

Is the Omnipod just waiting for approval for young kids? I first saw it on a YouTube demo with a young teen, so wasn't aware it was in the loop. Wish we could get them up here in Canada, but not yet!

Wow, what a bunch of really nice welcome messages! Thank you!

My son is feeling better, thank you all for your positive energy in wishing him well. His ketones are going down and, altho high, his blood sugar is under control (as in, I haven't had any "HI" readings, with our meter that means over 500). I did get him outside to get some exercise. The great thing about kids is, even if they're not feeling 100%, they still keep going. I hope the exercise will help get his sugar down in a few hours (it tends to lag a little with him).

He's so cooperative with everything he has to put up with… all the finger sticks and urine strips (for ketones) and injections and blood tests… it breaks my heart that this is "normal" for him. We can learn a lot from children, though. They are so strong and resilient.

p.s. I added a picture of my son to my profile. He's doing the "rock n roll" symbol! lol

I wasn't sure if he was Rock N Roll or I Love You…One of my daughters is deaf so we see that one a lot.
