My sugar would spike in the morning when I first check. I asked my doctor why. He is a type 1 diabetic since early childhood. He said that through the night while sleeping my sugar would drop too low, so my liver would put out more to over compensate for it. He suggested eating a slice or two of deli meat halfway through my sleep cycle. I did and my sugars in the morning have been excellent.

Glad that helped. I eat a slice of dark rye toast and half an apple or a piece of cheese with green or black tea.

My diabetic nurse recently told me to try one 2" square of original graham cracker with peanut butter on it - preferably one that Omega - 3 - about 2 teaspoons and my sugar would be better in the morning and it has helped.
