I have not given this much thought so I have not written about it. I just deal with it every day. My doc says I have both and that is why she refuses to put me on meds. She is afraid I will not wake up. This is part of the reason why my bg is all over the map too.

Are your blood sugars going very high and then going low?

Turtle 2009-08-22 05:48:18 -0500 Report

yes way high then way low.

Do some research into reactive hypglycemia, it's pretty common. In a nutshell your blood sugar goes high, your pancreas over compensates and releases too much insulin which drives your blood sugar low. It's kind of a roller coaster because then you have to take care of the low, then it goes high and the whole thing starts again. The best treatment is to lower your numbers and take steps to stop them going high. The best method for this is to eat at least 6 small meals per day so each one is very, very low in carbohydrates so you reduce the chances of going high after eating. I would put money on the lows stopping if you can tame your blood sugar after eating.

I took a quick look and found this site which on the surface seems good. I can't vouch for the info 100% but what I saw seems fairly accurate and useful. http://www.reactivehypoglycemia.net/
