Well, I got the call from my new doctor's office and they set my follow up for 4 months from now.

My A1c has gone from 9.4 (my last doctor visit test) to 8.8 (my home test) to 6.3 (my new doctor's office labs and my first since changing to LCHF) I can see a 5.??? in my future. It is my hope and goal that I am working toward. I am off all oral meds and now my goal it to get off insulin if it's in the cards. I sure hope so.

She told me to keep on my weight loss program (what a great motivation to keep loosing weight) and I am, dare I say it, almost excited to go to my next doctor visit.

Thank you everyone who has been here for me in this journey. It has taken me years to finally find things that are working for me. Low carb high fat is the way for me.

You are doing just Amazing! Congrats on your progress! :) I'm wanting/needing to lose about 40 pounds or so. I've never done the low carb/high fat plan before. Do you really lose weight on that? And does your other blood work come back good too? I am very interested and will look it up and read about it. Keep up the Wonderful work! HUGS :)

My other blood work is looking good. I have not met with my doctor to go over the specifics, but she is very happy with my labs. I have to dig up my old ones to do some comparison.

That sounds so great Gabby, you deserve good news from all your hard work. I think you can still improve if you hang in there and maybe get off that insulin. My numbers got lower and I had to back off the insulin for a while. I cut mine into two injecting split half way into the day, then tried going without one of those. I kept doing that until off of the insulin. Now there are still times I have to take it , but I am very reluctant to use it and only do so sparingly usually when we have been out and I add more carbs than normal. You can do it, just keep on doing your normal thing it will get better. Watch to make sure you don't go to low.

GabbyPA 2016-05-06 11:03:13 -0500 Report

I had cut back on my insulin but numbers started creeping back up, So I am still less than what I used to take, but I take 20 units two times a day. I can still get some lows, but not much. So I will keep working at that.

Way to go, Gabby!! I suspect my own A1C may tick up next visit with my doctor…being as the stress I have been under lately…and the fact that I took up smoking again as a result of the stress, I really gotta quit again.

But my last was 5.0 so we will see what happens…it's not till September.

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:08:12 -0500 Report

I would love a 5.0...heck I would love a 6.0. I know if I keep at it, I will get there. Stresses of life to mess things up, but the good thing is that if we know it worked in the past, we can get back on board with it.

Kalisiin 2016-05-05 17:46:49 -0500 Report

Exactly. And I already know I will once again be able to quit smoking. I did it once, for over a year…I can do it again.

I just need to find a less-stressed place to be…and it looks like that could be coming for me soon. The Justice Department just lowered the boom on North Carolina, LOL

Good for you. You have worked long and hard for this. I am glad that you've finally found an eating plan that works for you, and a doctor who will support you.

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:07:13 -0500 Report

Having the doctor support me is the best part. She didn't even flinch when I told her I was on LCHF. I shared with her the doctors that I was learning from, so maybe that made her feel okay. Her goal was that if it works for me, go for it.

Hey Gabby, wow, this is really amazing news. You are an inspiration. I know this is the result of a lot of hard work. Really happy for you.

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:10:25 -0500 Report

Thanks. It is hard work, but it's worth it. At least this hard work is paying off. Gone is the frustration (for the most part) of doing something that works for others but not for me.

Absolutely worth it. It must be so gratifying to see tangible results. As they say, one size does not fit all. :))

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:14:38 -0500 Report

Since diagnosis 9 years ago, I may never know how much I truly lost. I was too heavy to be weighed on a doctor's scale. I lost measurable 80 pounds but when I was put on insulin some of that started to come back and that really started to scare me. So now I am getting close to the 100 club. I still have a ways to go, but it's encouraging.

sistah123 2016-05-04 17:09:14 -0500 Report

Gabby, that's great! My a1c is 6.3 as well. My doctor keep tellin me to keep up the good work. I want to come off these meds. But I can't continue on loss in so much weight. It's becoming very depressing.

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:16:09 -0500 Report

Don't give up. Be happy where you are, but always keep trying things to make your goals become reality. My goal is to increase my insulin sensitivity and that in turn will take care of many other things. And it has. Just find your "why" and then focus on that.

Paulsue 2016-05-04 16:25:50 -0500 Report

Gabby, I am happy for you. I think LCHF is whats really saving my hide too. I know you can do this weight loss thingy with the lchf. I am losing a couple pounds a month on it too and not trying. It will be a great reward and I believe you can achieve this. Please take your minerals as well.

Congratulations and looking forward to seeing more successful news from you. :)

GabbyPA 2016-05-05 10:17:52 -0500 Report

I have stalled a little in the weight loss department, but with all that is going on, I am very out of routine. Once I get that going again, I am sure I will get back on track. I was loosing 4-10 pounds a month. I want to keep doing that.

MrsPatty 2016-05-04 11:05:29 -0500 Report

Such good news Gabby. I know you worked really hard for this. I envy your weight loss.

GabbyPA 2016-05-04 10:42:31 -0500 Report

I have a long way to go. But slow and steady is the name of my game...I have just a few pounds to loose and I can join the 100 pound loss club. I think I will celebrate with a new swim suit. LOL

suecsdy 2016-05-04 11:38:22 -0500 Report

If I tryed to wear the swimsuits I have, I would be at serious risk of a "wardrobe malfunction" I have to have separates for the top and bottom.

Yep, I had to throw one away finally. It is just too big and is a little scary when doing my laps. LOL I need a one piece for my aquasize class. No one wants to see my white tummy, especially ME. LOL
