I had texted my therapist today that I went and had urine done, also told her about my legs, feet being so swollen, feeling some rumbling in lungs also. I told her I had another episode last night w/bad heartburn/pain that woke me up but didn't affect the jaw this time, how I had to prop up pillows to relax it was so bad. She is also a RN/NP, I just received a few text's back from her saying, "My Lord Darlene your body is waging war!",keep my legs elevated,a very long list of things to avoid eating, then wrote "heck, avoid eating everything! said to drink Gatorade and low calorie flavored water is okay,to stay hydrated & drink plenty of water,I told her I have been drinking water and tired of running to the bathroom. She said that she thinks my symptoms are due to the blood sugar but can not say for sure. I asked her if she was serious and if I was sick, she told me to eat sparingly. She said it's hard to do but I have to adjust to my body's needs, more vitamin and fiber rich foods…I will see her on Monday. I am just getting very frustrated here. Thanks for listening to me vent, have a good night, sweet dreams… :) Darlene

Darly, not to scare you, but I think if I was having all of your symptoms I would probably have gone to the ER. Swollen legs and feet, can't breathe, extreme "heartburn pain" and "rumblings" in your lungs…could be something else beside the diabetes. Do you have a cardiologist? Not sure I would wait until Monday, IMO. If it happens again, please think about a trip to the ER. Feel better and my prayers are with you.

I have been having all the swelling since I was 19 and found out that I have low ejection fraction, which is rare for someone as young as me but it can happen at any age. I also have a hietal hernia which causes severe heartburn and that want to do a surgery called nissen fundus to correct it. Good luck with your mystery and trust me it can be. Mine sure was.

Good Afternoon everyone :) OK, maybe I know what the problem is now?? In my earlier post I said I went to see my Therapist, who is also a licensed Nurse Practitioner. When she took my blood pressure she heard something so told me to relax, stay still, she did it again and said I had an arrhythmia, which would explain the swelling, chest discomfort, rapid pulse (120's) I would guess. I have to go for a RHYTHM ECG,just waiting to find out when. In the meantime I am nervous and I am trying not to stress over anything that will make my heart race more!! Thank you all for your concern and advice, you were all right, something is wrong, hopefully nothing big. Have a health day! :) Darlene

You may want them to also check your thyroid. Just a suggestion. Hope today is a better one for you! GOD Bless!

Good Morning Beav! Thank you for your suggestion,I did have my thyroid checked the same time I had all my blood work done about a month ago, it was fine. I had a full blood work up,I think it was 8 tubes blood…

Oh good glad it turned out ok! I started with thyroid trouble Hashimoto's and then Graves Disease. Now my Thyroid is dead. Because of all the weight I gained from lack (almost null)of motabolism, I developed Type 2 Diabetes. But my body swelled up so bad that I didn't even have ankles. I had quit smoking after 27 yrs, and the condition was masked by the cigarettes. Take care! ~Beav~

Thank you all for your concern… :) I am so happy I found a place where I can just vent and ask questions, meet good friends and try to help others but I am also new to all this.
Anyways, had another bad night last night, woke up w/that bad heartburn/pain again, was awake almost 2 hours…ugh! I know you all want me to go to the ER but if I am able to avoid it I do,that is just me,you sit in a crowded waiting room for up to 7 hours to be seen, not matter what, have been through it too many times. I bought some Maalox advanced tablets for heartburn & acid indigestion. I am also pretty high on my glucose levels today,at least to me they are high. This AM level was 125 (not bad I guess) 2 hrs. later it was 173,I only had a cup of coffee w/2 TBLS. fat free cream & 2 small sugars, before lunch 103 (good) 142 after, only had a fiber one bar. Before supper was 105 (good) after was 183…I am tired, weak, & frustrated about all this. Do I have to start looking at labels before I eat anything? I am not use to having to check everything I eat, seems like whenever I eat my levels go up,and,I get very tired, sluggish…if this is pre diabetes I can imagine what type 2 feels like!…I hope you are all doing well today.
*HUGS* to you all, Darlene

How long are you waiting to test after eating? I was told to test two hours after the start of eating your meal. If you test any sooner that could be why your readings are high. It also takes time to figure out which foods will affect your blood sugar the most.

Darly 2009-08-15 18:48:35 -0500 Report

I was told to test one hour after my meals (that is for non diabetic) but I have been testing from 90 min-two hours. I will have to watch and see what foods to cut down on or avoid, have never had to do this!!…okay,so I tested again to make sure it was at the two hour mark, level is 189. Thank you for your reply, hope you have a happy, healthy night…Darlene
