My uncle has planned an outing for us at the local (local is 3 ½ hours from home) Casino. I work 1 ½ hours away so I am going to go meet them.

In the past two whole days of sitting at a poker table was excitement enough for me but I am getting better about exercise and have actually done several good things this week. Started ballroom dancing (I didn’t think that would be very strenuous but I was SO wrong) took a long walk to look at the flowers in our neighborhood and found some Patagonian Cavies, not flowers but a kind of rabbit/fox looking creature. (nice reward there) etc. I was excited at the prospect of a “Resort” (Really it SAYS “resort” on the website) so I packed my swimsuit and my sweats and planned for a massage too. Treating myself galore while hubby plays poker. (Planning some poker for myself)

Today I went on the website in anticipation….and found nothing mentioning as far as the above listed amenities. So I called. No pool. No gym. No masseuse. The woman did say they have live entertainment…..? I said that won’t help me exercise. She said they have five floors…I can run up and down the stairs. I told her I was going to find her and she has to come with me…. She laughed.
But now I am thinking about how hard the snack issue is going to be. They have BUFFETTs..grrr.More designed for massive consumption at one sitting…. not easy for small foraging.

I am seeing some baggies of purloined snacks hoarded under the poker table in my future.

THe good news is that you are aware of your enviroment. That is the first step. All else is down hill.
As far was a work out, Walking is your best bet. Take the stairs instead of the elevators if you can. Take a strole throught the casino. I watch people when I got to a casino. I dont bet much and loose less. GOod luck on your trip. Wife and I Plan on a cruise next month. I am dreading the buffet style eating also.

People watching is an art that my great-grandmother taught me. It served us well this weekend.

My husband is also a diabetic but he is SO BAD on his food choises. They had a free continental breakfast there but there was almost NOTHING I could eat so day 2 I said we are eating breakfast at the buffett where they had REAL food. Husband came back with amongst other things a custard which he ate 3/4 and said I should ahve the rest. Well, two bites was PERFECT..then he says "That was good. I'm going to go get antother one." I said NO YOU ARE NOT!!!!..If you enjoyed it that should be enough. Just then a VERY VERY VERY large man (I am guessing 500+)came by with a small village portion of food on two plates. I looked at him, looked at husband (who is pretty fair sized himself) raised my eyebrows and got up. He followed me out the door.

Oh and Sarge…The buffett on the cruise will be fine. I found I enjoyed the buffett more than the cafes…because I can make so much better choises myself and the quality was so good I just took small bits of good things and enjoyed what I took.

I am going to France and Ireland next month. I am more worried about the BEER…I can enjoy every bit of beer I see…

Well. here was the good news. The poker room had a bowl with little apples and bananas.

I found it impossible to be both vegetarian and diabetic so since I don't eat meat more for weight reasons than anything else, I went off on that part and has some chef salads and such.

Over all I did ok and had a good time.

Thanks everyone!

Sorry I love to play poker as well
I bring my own snacks and stuff to make light meals. It is so hard to do the buffet and stick to what I need to eat and not what I love
lol
good luck

Ginger,

Try eating off a salad plate instead of a dinner plate. I know when it's buffet you're tempted to eat more but if you try the salad plate trick and eat things that aren't fried and try to adhere to your diet it maybe fine.

Please try to have fun and relax.

*hugs*
