Hey, guys and gals! For the first time in several years, I am getting a sore throat, headache and earache! It has been kinda stirring around in my head for a few days, but now I am afraid it may develop into—-whatever! I have been so PROUD of myself, as I had pneumonia 7 times in 2 years about 2003—04— One reason I am a bit ancy is my bone marrow failed once, they thought that I had leukemia, didn't after they did a bone biopsy, had had pneumonia and diverticulitis plus too many antibiotics in trying to gain control of the "bugs"!. If it happens again the Dr said that I would die! Hmm—-really not ready for that step yet!
Is there something going around in your areas? I don't get out too much to get exposed to germs, but that doesn't mean anything. Just wanted to share, I HATE TO BE SICK!! As I will have to test this NEW DR that I THINK will pay attention to me—think I can now stand firm—-I HATE TESTS of emotions, I would just as soon go on laughing with my new friends as to try and communicate with THOSE OTHER PEOPLE!! hahah—Now that didn't sound too healthy, did it? Sorry—I will probably be fine, it is just the first time in 3 or 4 years and I have been gliding along perty good! Oh well, I have handled STUFF before! Still, say a few prayers—-prayers are NEVER wasted on anyone!! hugs—from a distance—to ALL!! PR

Thanks Susan! This is-beginning to act like some episodes I have had that did not turn out too good, but think I won't feel so hurt or bad to not return if I don't get better! It is so SLOW, better, then worse, temp up, then Down, not much cough yet and no runny nose, BUT In MY way of thinking that is how and why I have gotten down before—I don't act like a regular cold—however when she had me say, AH—she kinda jumped back, said it was red, but—then didn't finish her sentence. My lung and chest feel like they are burning, rather like my throat, and that just started last night/ that phlegm just seems to set and BURN—-my body is beginning to feel like it is getting weary—-usually not a good sign for me.

Oh, well, I think that I am facing another test of my abilities to stand up for myself, and shall, as I know that you all CARE and that gives me added strength!

Talk to you later!!! PR

Pat, I hope you're feeling better—and, SOON! You're in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Don't forget—plenty of fluids!

Thank you, will drink more water—I feel somewhat better, but my neck, throat and chest still feel tight—but am not as hoarse as I was yesterday. I have taken 2 of my antibiotic so that should be turning things around. I took Aleve for the soreness, it helped some—will go rest in my easy chair for awhile. Thanks to all, PR

My husband just called his sister in Attica, 30 miles nw of here and she has had this crud for 3 weeks, coughing her head off, but no phlegm, but now she is starting to rattle, which I told him was a good sign as now it should start tearing loose, sounds worse on the mend!!

When our kids had pneumonia so often, they wouldn't sound too badly until it got looser—then Wow, they would cough till they vomited large amounts of phlegm, helping to clear out those little chests!!

I think since I am older I don't seem to cough and blow like I used to—it drains in the back of my throat, into my lungs, then just sits there and burns. I read on the internet that as we age our cold symtoms change, aren't as severe, but still dangerous! I feel better but now know that I need to be aware of such in a timely fashion! /trouble is, I have had so many rounds of bronchitis which always made me deathly sick, high fevers, not piddly temps, and COUGH!!

Then my body switched to this pneumonia (the past 5 years) that is so sneaky, I have felt WORSE, but this has been so persistant and draining of energy. I think that I need to warn others as they age, not to take colds too lightly, especially with diabetis! This whole experience the past few years is so different than when I was younger, maybe more vital and fighting bacteria better! Hmmm—-more food for thought!

I feel like I am blazing a trail—-beware my friends, stay tuned to your own bodies as no Dr can really know HOW you feel, and if you FEEL something is wrong, it probably is, so stand up for yourself! I am older but my feet have never trod these roads before, so am reporting back!! Take care and pay attention, without getting into a snit over everything! LOve to ALL! PR

Yow, figured that the school kids across the street that come over every day, gave it to me, they were all coughing and blowing—-but I usually don't react to such like most, it just burns, goes down into my chest and burns some more—etc—but the kids didn't know that and it was too late by the time I caught on that they were ill! oh, well, I would rather die with friends, than alone! ha—PR

WELL, I did it, went to a new PA for my new DR as my throat is so off and on, varying temps, etc, my chest was beginning to burn, I GUESS that it drains back of my throat and goes into my lungs, instead of having a drippy nose, or being stopped up—-She said that I did have crackles in my lower left lung! Is that pneumonia? why in the world can't they elaborate a tad more. My aching left side is so sore too, muscles, take an Aleve—OK, OK "No I am not coughing much, but see, that is one reason I get into trouble, it all drains down there then gets stagnant! And I am the one who pays the price, once more! Oh, well, I did get a script for Doxycycline 2 X a day for 10 days, so physically, i should be fine! Emotionally, I still want to kick her chins, my own way of setting off a smoke bomb!! ha— I was assurred by the pharmacist that they are rushed for time!!! Oh, I KNOW THAT!! But it doesn't take but a few seconds to say a few more words, I have timed it!! HAh—Excuse me, my temp feels like it is going up again—she had nodded like it fit whatever dx she was thinkg of—but she did not share that with ME! Guess that is one reason I always feel so empty after I force myself to finally go. Oh, I am sure that they will be OK—-I am just tired and wanted to be pampered a bit, like, 'NOw take care of yourself and if you don't get to feeling better in 2 or 3 days< you come back!" They are probably afraid that we will! haha—

Oh, about them lying—not QUITE___My P ox was 89% I do have a problem with that, just have to work to get air down enough to walk much—-she said, "Oh, NO, that will never do, let me take it again, I had laughed enough that it was up to 92%—not too good, but passable! Than again maybe I shouldn't be so harsh, maybe it is the same as taking your BP more than once in the same appt. to get a more accurate count of when you are relaxed!! I would think that they would want to know how HIGH it goes when stressed so as to NOT blow your CORK some time!! Oh, well, what do I know??!!

Well, I am going to take my aching body and lay it down on a bed and "Sleep it off"! Cheez, you would think that I am a souser—or whatever that word is! ha—PR

Well, Folks, enough is enough!! Send up your prayers for me tomorrow as I am going to the Dr for the first time in years, other than to have my BP and BS done. Towards evening I start feeling punk again, temp coming up, my body is beginning to feel weary—I think one week is long enough to do my home remedy stuff—I sure do not want to go into that pneumonia stuff again, but really think my immune system is in better shape now!

Going to bed early again.. Good Luck and Good Health to the rest of you too!!! PR

We definitely have something going around these parts. My daughter and husband (and several co-workers and my mom) have all be sick with it. I started to feel it as the day progressed yesterday. Waking up wasn't fun this morning! Feel like crap, too. This is more than my seasonal allergies.

I hope you're feeling better soon—I'm going back to bed now! (Work should be fun this evening)

Must be a version of a summer cold. I slept last night, and feel better this morn, attribute it to the GOOD FEELINGS expressed by the kind folks on this site, PLUS more rest, a wet rag over my eyes, a hot rice pack on top to create some moist, heat over the sinuses area—-and I don't think that I have to see my Dr either! A RELIEF! But am growing up inside, so think I can if so needed!

Thanks for all of the well wishes! And the same to YOU!> Rest and lots of water sure does seem to help!! PR

Hi, Kunkel!! I so AGREE! When I was the caregiver of the family, ended with the death of my 98 yrs old mom, I FINALLY started admitting that I was so TIRED and that probably was part of my pattern of illness! And to me, it surely was. so I am trying to NOT fall into that pattern again, and as the demands are not too strong from others, I can now feel that I can pick and choose, and finally, it isn't selfish, to be kind to myself!! Thanks so much for your support!!! Hugs, PR

Thank you so MUCH! I am not sure what is going on, yet not enough to bother a Dr with. We had to go to Wichita shopping for kitchen cabinets, paint etc to re-do my folks house in trying to make it sell—-I kept talking and walking (more walking than I have been able to do for ages—)wore off my sore throat, and hoarseness, but it still burns, felt a bit dizzy off and on but my BS was ok, Since I am back home this eve, I feel like it might be gnawing away at me still—-am hoarse again, headache, had a chill a bit ago—usually my first clue that my temp is on its way up—-With it starting so slowly I think it is a bacterial, NOT a virus—so time will probably take care of it. I feel more confident now, so I think I can handle whatever —Thanks so much for your kindness!!! It HELPS ME SO MUCH!! PR

I hope you are feeling better Pat, I just went to the doc on Friday and had to be put on some antibiotics for an ear and throat infection. This however is nothing new to me, I have chronic ear problems and they mostly stay infected. I tend to get dizzy with mine too. My heart goes out to you, because I know how miserable it can make you feel. So as far as "anything going around" here, I don't think so, it is probably just me
:( Keep us updated and I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks so much, Sally! I have had bouts of ear infections, sore throats and bronchitis all of my life, BUT that was BEFORE this diabetis kicked in so i was unsure of what to expect—-if my poor old body could overcome whatever—-and I think that it is! My mouth and nose still burn some, feel tired, but not too bad—-I think that this has just been a warning to NOT push it yet, as I did in the past when I REALLY got sick, MANY TIMES—-about died 3 times, without the complication of diabetis, but I think I am going to win on it this time! And I just KNOW that it is mostly because of all of our friends on this site who have been so supportive and caring!!!! Boosting my moral to care also, it is easier when others care too! So, here we go for another week, more pleasant than the week before!! YEa!! PR

Hey Friend! Sorry your not feeling well. Here (Kentucky) we have had lots and lots and lots of rain this summer and it seems like a lot of people are complaining with stuffy heads and sore throats. I don't know how the weather is where you are but I think around here it may have something to do with the weather. None the less you should probably see the doc and let him give you an official diagnosis (since I'm not qualified to do that LOL). I hope you get to feeling much better soon. I know when I get sick I feel a little more nervous about it than I did before I was diagnosed with diabetes because illness tends to raise my sugar and it seems it takes me longer to recover now. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself and keep us updated on how you are feeling.

Oh, THANK YOU for all of your support! It mostly has to do with facing a DR again—I have a BAD history with men—so almost get sicker, chest pains, when i do go, my tongue feels swollen, sore, am hoarse, but my BS is 110 this morn so guess I am good to go, but that bed sure felt good last night!! I DID NOT want to get up this morn but we have to go to Wichita to buy paint and cabinets to repair my folks home so we can sell it!! SAD and I really don't want to go there- am afraid with this economy I will have to rent it, and I have rented before—-! Jack is snorting so my clue to SIGN OFF and MOVE IT! haha—Will turn to my family friends later! Thanks again!! PR

Thanks, Susan and Dan! It means so much to me to have your support! Now my voice is deepening—crum, I used to have sore throats and laryngitis, bronchitis a LOT when I worked full time and was so tired. But have been resting, exercising here and there—starting to lose weight, about 20 #—I will wait before I test my new Dr as I sure don't want him to get the idea that I am a whiner! Or he may ignore me like others have. What was ironic was that I WAS SICK with the other Drs—-they just didn't catch it till I had surgery, one was the 2 ft. colon resection, at the disgression of the surgeon!! One time I threw a gallstone—OUCH!!! Etc—TOO much to go into—
I just remembered that my sweet, little kids from across the street, came over Tues with colds and coughs and diarrhea, right in front of me——they too said that something was going around. Well, it was too late to say anything at that point! I just dismissed it as I have been so fortunate these past 3 or 4 years! Just like the diabetis! But Dr., I have been BORDERLINE FOR OVER 50 yrs),IT IS OK< I AM NOT A DIABETIC! haha—well, so I was WRONG!
I think I will take my old standby of a Cold alka-Seltzer before I go to bed! Heat a rice pack for my head, and "See you guys in the morning! We are supposed to meet our kids in Wichita to buy paint and cabinets to fix up my mom's house to sell—will see—Nighty-Night__PR

Good idea Pat. I swear by AlkaSeltzer Plus. When we did woodworking my husband used to say if I cut my hand off I'd take an AlkaSeltzer Plus and expect a new one to grow back.

Although I know honey is not good, generally speaking, for diabetics; I've been known to treat sore throats with honey and lemon in very hot water. Doc said it was a good idea, but what dos he know?

Good luck and I hope you will be feeling better soon.
