Hi my name's Gabe.. I have a 3 year old son (will be 4 in 2 months) who was diagnosed with t1 2 months after his 1st birthday - November 26, 2oo5. I'm just curious I'm looking through the posts and I see a lot of young ages.. The youngest I've noticed being 3.. How old was everybody when they were diagnosed?

Hi, it must be really tough to go through this with your little one. My heart goes out to you. I also have a 3 year old. Thank goodness so far he doesn't have this prob. But it runs in the family both sides alot. I myself was diagnosed at age 26. But I do know a boy that was born with diabetes. He had seizures from his blood sugar, as an infant. He is 17 now and copeing well. It did however stunt his growth. This is a hard task you've been handed but you can do it for that baby.

It was 1996 when I was told I was Border line.
I became t2 4 years ago. I am 45 now.

I am so sorry about your baby. It is so hard when something like diabetis happens to something so innocent and beautiful. My heart goes out to you both and I would like to pray for you with your blessing. What is your baby's name?

Blessings for you and your family, Leigh

Diabetes runs in my family, but like Gabby it was adult onset. My Mother was dx with type 2 in 1968, at age 52, I was dx withtype type 2 in 1995, just before my 35 birthday. My sister just older than me within the last 8 years at age 57. Both Grandmother's had it and one Grandfather plus several Aunts and Uncles and one brother-in-law. I just pray that my children don't get this, but like me my husband has it and his Mother, and Grandmother has had it.

As I read this post, my eyes cannot leave my 3 year old. I can't even begin to imagine what all of you are going thru. My heart goes out to all the parents of children with diabetes!!! At least as older people, we can process the information better, and know why we can't eat or drink something…Someone that age, all they know is that we said no…Good luck all of you!!!!!!

My age at diagnosis was 7. I'm now 45. Type I does span all ages, but seems to hit children most often.

I just found out April of this year, 2008, and it is a family trait from my mother's family. And I'm 44 years old.

yeah in school I got excused from class, I would bring a snack or go to the snack machine in the teachers lounge. other classmates thought it was so cool and half the time begged me to bring them something back. it's funny now.

I was 15, and having a lot of passing out spells in high school very embarressing. But yeah I found out I had Diabetes and Narcolepsy(sleeping disorder) in the same week at 15 yrs old. He is so young but at least he will grow with the good habits if you start now. It's harder being a teenager and finding out that you can't eat sugar anymore. I guess you can't miss something you've never had. So starting out healthy and following that as you grow will make it easier. Best of luck and prayers.

They told me i have Type 1 in 2004, i was 29years old. And i'm the first one in my family, there is no history of diabetes. I have a 12 years old daughter, and i'm very scared of her about that she have a higher chance to develop the disase because of me. (i don't really have much info about this issue) She is healthy and i do everything she stays that way.

Hi, Rita! I was diagnosed with type 1 at age 11, 47 years ago. I have a 31 year old daughter, and a 9 year old and 11 month old granddaughters. None of them have shown any tendencies toward type 1 or 2. My daughter has been pregnant 4x (is currently) and hasn't even had gestational diabetes during any of her pregnancies. Prayerfully, that will give you encouragment regarding your daughter. Blessings! Brenda

My son was 8 years old when he was diagnosed. I can't imagine finger pricking and giving shots to a 3 year old--that must be very hard. How is he handling the challenges?

I was 11 when I was diagnosed. I've known men in their 40s to be diagnosed with T1.. it seems to span all ages.

I was diagnosed with type 1 5/22/08 at 38 years old, Melissa Dawn is quite correct as I don't believe that diabetes has any age boundaries.

My family runs late in the diagnosis. We actually didn't find out it was a family history issue until about 1992, when my brother was diagnosed, then my dad around 95, then my mom a few years ago, and now me. My heart goes out to those who have it in childhood. It has to be rough.
