Boy, we are all with you, Pete!! WAY BEHIND YOU! ha—I am doing better on the carbs too, in fact, some sweets if I take one bite is rather sickening—WOW, did i JUst say that??!! I never thought that day would EVER happen!! So good and better habits can be adopted by repetitions—-Tonight I resisted a can of diet pop, have been trying to stick to water and am finally beginning to enjoy and LOOK FORWARD to a nice, tall, cool, drink of WATER!! HUGS PR

Now what kind of fit did you throw, Pete? I can't believe that you were ever a mess, maybe in a need for help, but not a mess! hah—-The fits I threw the past few weeks, were emotional ones, just a few snips at people when i was so tired, nerves edgy—-I didn't mean to—-just hoped that others knew where I was coming from and cut me some slack! ( One Dr asked me what I thought was wrong with me—-and I snapped, "You tell me, I am just the patient and something is—-!" The Dr.smiled, said that I had cancer, "OH, I replied, that too—-but that was not what was making me feel so badly!" Guess it was a PART of it—looking back—hahah—)
ONe thing I have learned by venting on this site, that fatigue and stress can cause us to act out of character—or to "lose face" as for BS, that too has an onery corner, so to speak! Hang in there!! PR

i've conquered my addiction to bread, but i'm still helplessly hooked on matzo crackers—unleavened bread. i'd rather eat them than a meal. with REAL butter, yummmmm. do u know even RADISHES have a carb each? that should be against the law!

That did it…now I am craving a matzo cracker with real butter, a slice of radish and sprinkled with sea salt and cracked pepper…Thank God I don't do with alcohol what I do with food!!!!

you are not alone. Being single and having no one but myself to blame i tend to lean towards carbs knowing that they will bring my blood sugar up and then slam down. I still crave them. Sometimes i convince my self that i deserve them, but all in all i am aware and try to limit. I think thats what is important at least we are trying to change, Inch by inch. carb by carb.

Well, surprise, surprise!!! I checked my BS today afternoon, it was 73 ! So I attended church where they had finger foods, and ate a selected amount with ONE Hard cookie, Not near as good tasting as it looked—-and my BS was 97! Now, Folks, don't throw those oranges at me, this is a first for me in 3 years!!! Could it be that my body is developing better responses to what I eat and do?? WOW!! PR

steely 2009-08-18 08:34:45 -0500 Report

Does a bs of 73 not make you feel bad, physically Pat? Mine was low most all day yesterday the lowest being 70, the highest 89. I felt bad all day, woke up this morning to 82 and still feel bad. I wonder if mine needs to be just a little higher, maybe I need to incorporate a few veggie carbs.

Surprisingly, no, I didn't feel much different than normal. Will too much Metformin drop you into a danger zone, not knowing what you are doing? etc—I have been fighting this nervous breakdown for so long that I really don't know how the diabetis affects me as it got out of hand just 3 years ago, and the other has been my constant companion——forever——my mind is better, not so weird, since I am sharing on this site——I was tired but am also fighting this infection—-I could still go to the church for this musical thing—ate, didn't feel differently when I got home at 93, so I can't say, sorry!

In a way the not knowing scares me a bit, I don't know if I could tell if I was going to pass out or something when driving—I usually check, but have had no problem, but sometimes I am weird in the head, feel OK< till later after I rest, then CLEAR UP and see how far off base I was——SO I follow you guys closely, trying to figure myself out——I have found the past few days that by RESTING for a few hours after lunch—resting that left lung/back against a heating pad on the back of my recliner, I FELT better and hadn't been aware that I had even been feeling pooed! I am trying to listen to my body better, but NOT TOO__You know what I mean—gott shove it, sometimes!! hugs, PAT R

Thanks for answering my question, Pat. I didn't used to feel anything myself but lately I've found I can sort of feel it start dropping. Pat Roth
Pat Roth 2009-08-19 13:24:42 -0500 Report

That is ALMOST funny as I thought that I was the ONLY ONE who felt mudduled—just kept putting one foot in front of the other, careful to not step on my own foot!!! I do, do that at times!!! I had blocked out my own feelings of ill health and fatigue in order to keep caring for my mom, hubby, kids when small etc—I was so RIGID in my RUT, must keep going at all costs!! Well, it paid off, now I am a zomby—-that can't cry or feel much, BUT that is gradually easing up as I interact with the sweet little kids across the street, helped them to find a crying kitty, they warmed some milk and it drank so hungrily——-it had been awhile since it had eaten, about 6 weeks old, Now who could turn their hearts off to a warm, cuddly little ball of fur, that responded to our kindness by PURRING so sweetly as he cuddled against your breast! Oh, I am now coming alive!!! Best Wishes!! PR

Recently, in a large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said:

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans)… They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia . Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they don't have kids either. Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, ¨Good gosh, look how smart I am…¨

Yes, I love my carbs too. Who doesn't? I mean all the foods we love are loaded with carbs. I too have a problem with nighttime eating. After 8 pm I am always hungry.
I have heard of this being called the Werewolf syndrome. I eat good all day and Bam!!! I turn into a werewolf and start to gobble every carb I can get my hands on. As long as my husband is home I am able to fight the urge, but when he's not here LOOK OUT here comes the WOLF. Boy is it hard to get the wolf back in it's prison.
Just loves those carbs too much The only way I know how is not to be alone at nighttime. Really hard on the nights that hubby closes at work. I keep trying though not real easy but I won't give up. I will cage this Wolf one of these days. lol

Oh, MY!! How have I missed this humorous debate on carbs?! My own body speaks for itself, one large statement of how I LOVE THOSE CARBS!!

But since I have been cutting back, drinking no soda pop, even diet, I am losing my appetite, but not to worry as I know that won't last long as it never has! My Gurd can be a great appetite suppresser, take 2 bites, then regurge and vomit! sounds gross, and it is, happened to me yesterday in Wichita, when I had this lovely meal of salads, with a piece of fish and fruit, on the side—took several bites and the excitement of the day kicked in, I FORGOT to take my 2 Prilosec before we left home, so, no dinner much—-then ate 2 pieces of Pizza for supper! wow, now that zipped me up and over my goal—-haha—So, OK body, don't be so touchy!!! I am still learning how much and what to chow down on! ha—Nighty night!! PR

Pat Roth
Pat Roth 2009-08-04 10:40:14 -0500 Report

Gurd is when excitement or NERVES kick your esophagus into reverse, you try to swallow, BUT your relfuxes come UP, instead of going DOWN! HURTS And if you try to FORCE it to go down by eating more, it really HURTS!! Of course, knowing me, I had to try and Force it down a time or two, had to go to the Er , gave me nitro, and was in bed for 3 days due to the exhaustion that it triggered. So when I START to feeling it work its way —up—I immediately STOP eating, sometimes that stops it, or sometimes I have to go to the BR and regurge large amounts of Plhegm and some food.

BUT if I remember to take my 2 Prilosec everyday, it doesn't occur! But I am bad about forgetting to take ALL of my meds, so many and I don't like to be bothered, UNTIL I SURE WISH THAT I HAD REMEMBERED TO TAKE THEM HAH__PR

However the problem isn't all that food,it is what they are on-THE CARB. One thing I've tried is making Pizza w/o carbs. I make an omlet. When the omlet is almost finished,I spread on sauce and various cheeses and other toppings I place it under the broiler till the cheese melts. Not too bad.,but never as good as the REAL THING.
