I just signed up after discovering this through a Mayo clinic conference speaker. More than a bit concerned with trusting your service when, after completing registration, I land on my page and have 2 friends ? (!). I am now going back and reading your "Terms and Conditions" in exhaustive legal detail. I don't care if this was intentional or not, but, by NOT giving me any information in the registration process (and me being naive enough to trust) about being "friended" is inexcusable from a HIPPA standpoint. I know HIPPA does not apply to this product, however, my medical conditions can be used against me in career and insurance manners. I would request that you please terminate my account and remove all database information. Failure to do so will result in me posting this feedback on GetSatisfaction.com.

Ha, you are so right, Pat L. We all feel stongly about situations at times, give us a chance, we are ALL really nice folks, just get a bit tired and grumpy at times, like anyone else. Welcome, pat Roth

Hi. As CEO of Alliance Health, I am sorry for your concerns and would be happy to hear you talk through your issues. Feel free to friend me here and I can exchange my phone and email information.

I appreciate your concerns about health, privacy, and trust. Whether you choose to find out more about our site and community or not, it would be helpful to us to understand your fears so that we make sure we continue to improve what we do.

Thanks.

Werker,
I'm very sorry for the way your unexpected friends caused you to feel. You bring up a very good point that we need to explain this in the registration process.

Amy Tenderich and I are the managers of this site. We have set up the system so that we are automatically friends with every new member so that you have someone to turn to if you have questions about how the site works or how to use it or anything like that.

We honestly didn't intend for your privacy to feel violated in any way. We take privacy issues very seriously and allow you to precisely control what information is shared with any member of the site.

I hope that clears things up for you. I'm happy to answer any of your questions. If you still want your membership deleted, I can take care of that as well. But we would hate to see you go.

I have found these folks, John and Amy, fair minded and helpful. It is up to you but I would be sorry to lose another person's opinion. Good Luck, Pat roth

WE are friends here, sharing info, advise, recipes, etc. The friend invite, is like, having a conference and people come up to you and shake your hand and introduce themselves. We would love to include you into our family. You can choose, who you want to be friends with. if you choose not too, you won't offend us. We are here for help, from one and another. As said before, you don't have to fill out anything, if you don't want too. Or even do your profile. You can post anonymously. We would love to hear your input. So please join us.

The 2 friends are the advocates on the board, just like Tom on myspace. others have to request and you accept. HIPAA has nothing to do with friends plus you have the option to never show or even fill in your profile and you can post anon.

Even if HIPAA applied to this site it would not be a violation to have the specific automatic friends as they are technically entities of the site and would be tied to you under HIPAA since you and the site has a relationship. Same way a doctors office billing department can see your record, you don't vet them personally but they have far more access to your medical records than a friend on this site would..
