It's time to begin 4th of July party plans. Let's offer everyone a healthier menu this year.

For starters: a vegetable tray with low fat, low calorie drssing for dipping. Try raw sweet potato sticks, celery sticks, broccoli, cauliflower florets, carrots, and tomato wedges, to name a few.

For a fruit tray: watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, peaches, pears, grapes, figs, apples, oranges, kiwis, mangos, pineapples, a low-cal chocolate dipping sauce, and a yogurt dip will do.

For the main course, try BBQ chicken or turkey this year with the fatty skins removed prior to cooking. Fresh steamed green beans or a cabbage slaw with low cal or fat-free dressing for your side dish. Instead of potato chips, try apple chips or dried fruit strips/slices.

Offer water, lemon-ade sweetened with sugar substitute, unsweet teas, green teas with lemon.

Jello makes a great dessert and you can mold it into some pretty cool ideas. Check out party ideas on the search engines and in your diet cookbooks for favorites you might want to try. (Tell everyone it will be an Independence from fat foods day too !)

You know how people love strawberries dipped with sugar ? Try sweet & low instead or dark chocolate dip. Freeze grapes that have been washed, de-stemmed, and covered with sweet & low. These fruit favorites make a nice cold dessert ! See my recipes for other ideas.

This all sounds yummy! I like to do veggie kabobs too, and roast them while you cook the meat. Mushrooms, Zucchini, cherry tomatoes, Green and Red Peppers and a little Vidalia Onion. Brushed with a little butter and sprinkled with taragon or sage...they are a big hit here at home.

Come on to the party, Dance ! We live about an hour from the coast of North Carolina. And, yes, that's what is on the menu, along with corn on the cob (from my garden & roasted on the grill, of course), veggie burgers and hamburgers, turkey hotdogs, BBQ chicken, cole slaw (made from my garden's cabbages)and all the fixin's to go with it ! I would love to have a party here and invite people from this community…wouldn't that be awesome ?!
Don't forget the bathing suit and towel, either ! Kids will be here, so no skinny-dipping !…LOL !
