Ten to 15 drops of Almond oil in warm milk before going to sleep seem to be helpful next morning for me. I am at ease with lots of spinach, fiber bread, 3-4 miles of morning walk, four glasses of water the first thing in the morning. This has to on regular basis without fail or I face horrible day ahead. All this goes about 50-60% compared to a normal healthy life routine. I almost avoid meat except some chicken and fish once in awhile!

Ask your doctor about Amitiza. And if you have health insurance, the Rx may end up being cheaper than all the OTC stuff and special foods you are trying. I know others who have tried it with success.

I've been placed on a daily regimen - I put a dose of Miralax in my morning coffee and at night, I take one store brand stool softener capsule. I also drink at least 2 liters of plain water daily. It took about three days to take effect, but as long as I stick to the daily routine, things seem to be OK. However, if for any reason I decide not to take either dose, I'm in for another two to three days of misery. I have a surgical procedure scheduled next week and, after recovery, I will also begin taking a probiotic supplement (align) to see if that gives me some relief from the bloating symptoms. I am very tired of walking around looking like I'm 18 months pregnant!

Hi-so miralax, seems to help you—I will get some, TODAY, been 3 days for me, and I am beginning to feel the warning signs of no stool, am bloated, don't want to eat, which usually follows wanting to eat EVERYTHING! It gets harder to breathe, I am overweight too, even with 2 foot of colon removed, I think my fat has filled in, shoving out my air, if that is possible! Say, I just remembered, after my colon resection, they said that I had had several pouches BURST, BUT the fat in my stomach, pressed against them and sealed them enough to not let those bad things loose into my bowel, killing me!! So, guess I am very lucky, but shouldn't push it, could have been a warning, of sorts!

Good Luck to you, I will try your methods as mine aren't working too well at this time, I maybe drinking more STUFF and not enough water too!! Hmmm—more food for thought! Thanks for your suggestions!! For chronic problems, I think that you have to change strategies from time to time! hugs, PR

Hello PR,We are doing very wellso far, mywife has tried miralax with coffee. Then a bottle of magnesium sulfate. I guess the warm liquids is what helps her.No problems so far,I have tried the miralax with coffee also, and have had good results. As we know diabetes has many different toils and turns on our body, because as we take care of ourselves we never know when something new is going to affect us.My wife also has high blood pressure, gout, neuropathy on her legs, thyroid, fluid retention, and acid reflux. She takes various meds. for this and more. But I take good care of her everyday since I also am disabled. I take various meds. for blood pressure, thyroid, heart meds.,acid reflux, depression, even though I feel alot better understanding the word of God.WE all hope that their will be a cure for all these illnesses so we can enjoy life a lot better.I know some illnesses are greater than ours and injuries too. But, our faith in God,and the meds we have now will help us to enjoy some part of life. Why else would God have given us Drs.and Pharmacists.Well,God Bless You and hope to talk to you soon.PS.I hope they find some cures, especially, for the children, cause it is hard to watch them try to be strong like us and tolerate their illness or injury or diseases.Well, talk to you again soon.Flores

That sounds so helpful, Flores! Thank you for replying. Believe me, my heart goes out to those with constipation. Oh, I know that we laugh, but for those who are truly troubled it is NOT a laughing matter! I too have had to resort to that little green bottle when I started vomiting—TOO FULL and it has to go somewhere! I also have noticed that hot coffee sometimes is a good trigger, or a diet pop, something to stimulate the bowel, I suppose. Best of luck and keep me posted. I am fair—not "cleaned out" but getting by. pr

Hmm, that is interesting! I used 2 Colon Clenz and thought that was helpful, but after only a few, scattered times, it isn't working so goo—skip a day, feel bloated even the day after taking it with no results. My mom used Milk of Mag every day as some of her meds (Calcium and Verapmil) were working against her bowel situation. So if your meds are contributing to the problem you may have to use more of the prescribed med, but I would still be very careful in not making a havit of anything, try LOTS of WATER, hot and cold, more fruit, especially Prunes and apples—But I am repeating myself. GOOD LUCK for I am like Roger, sometimes going 3 weeks without a movement, when I was younger—-makes for a very cranky, painful Patricia Ann! PR

i just had my colen checked becouse i could go 3 to 13 days with out having a bm they found nothing and now eat lots of fiber and it has helped a lot after the clean out for my colen check i have had a bm every day. they want me to take fibercom 3 times a day( was too much did not have solid at all) also they want me to eat 2 med apples a day.i am eating lots of lettus ,and celery, and as all of us should i have tryed to cut out my carbs .i dot think the carbs have any thing to do with it but that is what i am doing ( for my clean out i took magnesium citrate10 oz at 5pm one night then the next night at 5pm i did the same then one hour later i mixed one 119 gram bot of miralex powdar and 32 oz of gatorade and drank 8oz every 15min drinking the hole bottel in one hour and the next day in the am i did the miralex and gatorade mix agan .this was the 3 day clean out the hole time i could only have clear sweented liq) i would not do this with out asking your dr . ps every thing is over the counter.

Granted, it is over the counter as I have been informed to use it before my colonoscopys/ But to use it often I don't think is healthy, usually something every day, like prunes or such, only result to that citrate etc. if you are so plugged that you are nauseous—-I have had to have 2 feet of my colon removed because of frequent bouts of diverticulitis, chronic constipation—-then diarrhea, 15 or so a day—was placed on a gluten free diet for 15 years but finally decided that it was caused by tension and nerves, so since I have gotten really cleaned out now and then, I try to use simpler methods to prevent that extreme, but sometimes it still occurrs, so then the little green bottle is bought and drunk—-glug—-at least you can BREATHE better when" the dust settles!" I have been advised to drink one cup of hot water first thing in the morning, before eating one bite of anything.

Or heat 4oz prune juice and 4oz apple juice, may warm in microwave.

May throw in Milk of Mag with the prune/apple juice mix, if REALLY plugged up.

Or plain cooked prunes and

LOTS OF Water! In our group, 32 oz are recommended—that should float out anything! Then fruit, within our diabetic limits, fruit, NOT just juice as the fiber in the fruit is supposed to help more!—-Moving Along!

Good Luck from one who has experienced severe constipation ever since I can remember. Tension, I guess! Hopefully I will OUTGROW it, I am only 77 yrs. Try to avoid constant use of laxatives and enemas as the bowel gets lazy and too dependent on artificial means.
Best of Luck!

Thanks for your advice,Roger&Pat&Cara,Ihave started using milk of magnesia ugh, ugh, and am having good results and of course apples, and fruits and miralax with my juice. But,the one with serious trouble is my wife, because she has tried liquids, powders, fruits, and other fiber products. She has been hospitalized for this, even had a severe impaction removed. She tries the little clear bottle magnesium sulfate and prunes. This seems to help her but, not right away. She has a morphine pump for severe chronic back pain and nerve pain in her legs. She also has to take various meds. for Thyroid, high blood pressure,sm. aspirin, potassium, and detrol.I also have detrol, fluid pills, also, blood pressure, diabetes pills,celebrex,co-Q-10,nexium,and citalopram. I had a triple heart bypass done last year.Sometimes, I think the morphine pumps we have slows our own bowel movement.Well, talk to you again later.Flores

Yep, you are right, Morphine and all narcotics are infamous for slowing down the bowels! Any med that relaxes pain spasms will inadvertantly also slow the bowel, unfortunately. So do sleeping pills, some heart meds, my Verapmil 240 does, also my doubled calcium pills, I have osteoporosis—-so this complicates the matter. I would still try to stick to natural things, like the WATER, prunes, prune and apple juice combined and warmed in your microwave, if you have one. that one works best for me, but we are all diffenent so, GOOD LUCK!
