Hello everyone!!
I am so glad I found this site!! I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last June. I knew I had it but was scared to go to the doctor. I guess I didn't want to hear the words, "you have diabetes". I couldn't seem to get enough to drink. I woke up one morning, and I couldn't focus my eyes. It was the way you see after the eye doctor puts drops in to test your vision. I was so scared I went straight to the doctor. She tested me and my blood glucos level was 508. I am now taking Metformin and Byetta, and I have lost some weight. I try to eat healthy, but thats just not easy to do when your not the best cook, so if anyone has any tips… I could some help!
It's great to meet all of you!!

Hi Judy!!
We have a boces center that is offering cooking lessions. First 2 are free, bring your own supplies. My sister is going to come with me. She needs help too, runs in the family. I know the basics, but I want to be good. Even when I follow a recipe, I always manage to mess it up lol. Thanks for the tips!! So.. When can we start my lessons?? I'll be on my way!!

Donna, Your not alone when it comes to being bad at following recipes. I very rarely try to use one, as it will not work for me. I've found it best to just experiment with things…LOL My son loves my home made soups… he thinks I should open a soup shop. But I don't think that is a viable future for me.
There are many good choices for foods even in the freezer section of your local store. I prefer to attempt to cook, but one occassion the microwave foods work out ok.

Judy, Does your invitation go out to the rtest of us too? LOL
Maybe we can have a picnic at your place… :-)

LOL You're all welcome to come to Wisconsin… we'll have a cooking class and a picnic with all our dishes we make.. !!! I'd love it! We'll make my whole wheat rolls from scratch and some barbeque pulled pork and chicken for those that don't like pork, and tons of healthy veggie recipes from all the good stuff we'll pick up at the farmers market early in the morning!!

You know I'd like a side business and I'm thinking I might have found an idea here. Teaching Diabetic people how to cook healthy foods and how to eat local!! I may have to call the Diabetes Center and see if people would be interested. hmmmmmm You guys are the greatest… got me thinking now.

I have added the recipe for Wheat Rolls to the Recipes category. They are very easy to make so don't be intimidated by the recipe. If you are making dinner rolls or hamburger buns shape in circles just bigger for hamburger or sandwich buns. If you are making hot dog buns shape them in oblong shapes but not as big as a regular bun.. remember they will double in size and also raise a little more as they bake.!!

Beware these can be addicting.. LOL Don't eat too many !!
