I was in the hospital quite awhile back & was told that I am A-symptomatic because I have no symptoms whether my sugar is high or low. I wound up in the hospital once after this in a coma, with a 700 reading. I have now gotten my readings down from the 300-500 levels to 30-200. I can be at 190 & within an hour, drop to 40. I have now become able to tell when my sugar drops below 60,( my lips & tongue become numb.) I still do not have symptoms when it goes up. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi…What do you consider A-symptomatic…Your BG goes up to 200…which is a symptom of diabetes and you are experiencing lows which is another…I think you perhaps just worded this wrong..or your doctor worded it wrong to you (some doctors have a tendency to explain things in rudimentary ways so us "stupid people" can better understand UGG!!) …MANY people go for years without being diagnosed with diabetes because "they feel fine".. but just because they feel fine does not mean they are symptom free,..just that they can not feel them…personally I would rather feel them and I am glad you can now feel your lows…because now you can treat them appropriately.

I have No feeling of either being high or low anymore. I was diagnosed juvenile type 1 when I was a baby after I fell into a coma in 1980. My BG was 963.
I'm glad you can tell when your sugar is going low now. I check my BG every 1-2 hours. The next few weeks should finally be getting my D.A.D.
Wishing you the best

Howdy Joyce
A-symptomatic? Wasn't your coma a MAJOR symptom of your diabetes?

When I first had diabetes back in 1995 I had a BG (blood glucose) of 300 mg/dl (as measured by a "pee stick") and I peed a lot but otherwise felt great.

I am glad that you no longer have hypoglycemia unawareness. Sometimes ppl have no feeling of being high. I still do not.
That is why we have glucometers to check our BG levels.

Praying God's best for you and yours
