I have been sick for the last few months and my blood sugars have been up and down. I can only keep down liquids and bland foods. I have intestinal issues and the doctors are doing there best, but lately my blood sugars have been up because I am sick and stressed out because nothing I do is helping. Any advice is appreciated.

I haven't been "sick" since I was diagnosed..but I recently threw out my long suffering back…and had very limited mobility for a few days..I wasn't about to cook..so all I really ate during those days were green salads and shakes that have a total carb count of 2 with only 1 net gram…so I came in at under 12 net grams for those days…even though my body was stressed and I was taking meds (which I hate to do)..I saw no changes in my BG levels…

When I am sick I tend to restrict my carb intake to help combat rising numbers. Are you able to do that? I know that bland and carbs tend to be the same things. Is your tummy able to handle fats? They offer energy without a glucose rise. Things like cheese or nuts?

I'm sorry you're going through this…dealing with diabetes without other illnesses is hard enough. How often are you testing your BG's? Has your doctor given you correction bolus ratios to help bring down any highs? If not, ask him/her about this. Illness and stress will most likely cause you to need more insulin than usual to stay on target. You know that you need to stay hydrated, especially because of the gastro issues. Hoping you find a solution and get better soon!

I have been having nasty gastro intestinal problems. And I have had lots of nausea and vomiting. Everything I eat comes back up. I have to eat bland foods and lots of liquids
