Today . I am a newly diagnosed diabetic . I just started on glyburide,due to an allergic reaction to metformin. I started taking it last week . Changed my diet and excersize more . My readings have good ,well with in the healthy range until this evening … It was a bit higher than normal . I'm so disappointed in myself . I hate not feeling in control of my own body . It's so frustrating .

Here is how I look at it. Our bodies were made by design to do everything automatically. It is complicated and 24/7. Once that effort has to be done manually, it is prone to not be as efficient as the original design. It makes me appreciate just how incredible our bodies are.

You are new and even some of us who are "old hat" at this, learn new things all the time about how our bodies work. I know it's frustrating, I feel that often as well. Don't let it beat you up. You are trying to do something that is incredibly difficult to master.

Like sweetslover said, there is little need to get upset over 1 errant reading. BTW, what was that reading?

I want you to know that even the most experienced PWD (person with diabetes) can control our BG levels perfectly even if we eat and do everything "right" as an infection of which we were unaware can raise our BG levels higher than we might like.

Keep at it, and things will improve.

Thank you , it was 152 just before dinner …I did some excersizes then checked it again before bed and it was normal .

I know how you feel, but don't get upset over one reading. There are many things which could cause a temporary spike in your BG. It sometimes takes some experimenting with different foods to find out which ones you can and cannot eat. Today, I ate my first piece of pizza in 6 months. Two hours later I checked my BG. Let's just say that it will be longer than 6 months before I eat any more pizza.

We celebrated my grandson's birthday yesterday and had cake at 8pm which I knew was a mistake but figured I would work it off on the treadmill when my daughter & grandsons went home. The problem was that I was so tired that I could not safely get on the treadmill. I opted to sleep and woke up with a blood sugar reading of 110. Very high for me. I really like seeing my mid 80's. On the positive side, I got 8 hours of sleep and feel great. I'm going for a walk with my grandpuppy as soon as I am done with my dentist appointment. We make choices all the time. I'm okay with mine for yesterday. I'm home after 2 weeks of travel and will be back to normal.

I just want to do everything right . After seeing what my Dad went through ,when he had diabetes . It was awful . I watched him slowly deteriorate right before my eyes as a teenager . It was heart breaking and I just don't wNt that for my own son . I want to take care of myself as best as I can for him .

Pizza is (of course) delicious! If you wanna try again, give my method a shot:

Scrape off the toppings for the size bite you want. Cut of a very tiny portion of the back crust (that's the best part, so don't waste your time with the bottom crust). Put the sliver of crust in your mouth FIRST and chew it once so you can feel the breadness of it. While chewing, pop in the clump of toppings you previously scraped off. Yum! Still feels and tastes like pizza but with hardly any carbs. I can eat three pieces like that and still be under 120 in 2 hours (as long as I worked out that day).
