Hi all. Just wanted to start out and let you all know that I'm not diabetic but it runs in my family and my sister has type 2.
I joined this site today after having searched for a site which offered information and recipes for diabetics. I was impressed when I found Diabetic Connect. It offered everything I was looking for and the member discussions was an extra plus.
I'm concerned about my sister's health. Last year she came for a visit and I was shocked at her appearance. She became so skinny but it also looked like she had lost some muscle mass. Then later I found out that she hadn't taken her medication for months. At the time she had no insurance and couldn't afford it after a divorce.
She finally went to see the doctor after she developed some nerve damage in her leg. She's now on 4 different meds and is regaining a healthier weight. Still does not have her blood sugar down to an ideal level but it's much lower than it was.
She's coming to spend next weekend with us and I've been trying to search for recipes that she can eat.
She gave me a long list of things she says she can't have including:
Sugar of course or artificial sweeteners
Anything with flour in it including pasta and breads
Some fruits because of the natural sugars
I did come up with a few things I could cook for dinners and breakfast but am stumped for snacks and maybe a dessert.
That's where I am right now and am looking forward to getting to know you all.
And I will be referring my sister to this site.
