I have insulin dependent type 2 diabetes and use novolog insulin before each meal based on a scale from my doctor. I have had a lot of trouble recently overestimating the number of carbs in the meal, eating too much to cover the carbs, and then ending up with very high BG readings. How do other people manage this? Any suggestions appreciated.

I use the MyFitnessPal app to help me to estimate how many carbs are in the meal. I then inject about 1 unit for every 10-15 grams of carb. It's worth remembering that your body is probably still making some insulin, so monitor your sugars 2 hours after the meal and then you'll begin to develop a better understanding of the amount of insulin that your body needs for different foods and quantities of carb.

Thank you. I have used my fitness pal in the past and shouldvstartvusing it again. Part of my problem when eating at a friends house is that I don't know exactly what they are serving, and therefore tend to overestimate the carbs to be on the safe side.
