I just unliked the ADA page on FB..was engaged in a conversation about low carb eating and they didn't like it…my original comment and all the responses were deleted 20 minutes into the conversation…they not only work to keep people sick..but silence those who don't agree with them…

The ADA is not in the business of finding a cure for any type of diabetes. They are in the business of keeping the ADA up and running. Just like most of the big charities. If sick people get cured it will not be due to anything they do. I agree with you 100%

It doesn't matter who's in charge of the ADA, the results will remain the same. I hate to be the one to shatter any illusion of grandeur or any hope and such, but it is what it is.

I used to visit their webpage but when I could never find anything of use to me I stopped going there. There are a few other pages/websites I visit but this is my main one.

Pathetic taking posts down unless offensive people learn from others and you from them. Hope they put the posting back on they should tell you they are deleting your posts and why its only curtious to do so.

I am with you. I don't belong to the ADA Facebook page and don't want them on mine. We Diabetics know more about Diabetes than ADA does with all of their book learning for medical school. That is why I am on this discussion group. I learn a lot about how to take care of myself.

I dunno how long you had them on your list in FB, but I'm surprised you had them even that long, I defriended them a long time ago. YIKES the things I saw coming from them scared me. You are right it is their way or the highway. I would choose the highway as well.

Hi Jib Jab,
I agree with you, it's just that simple. The ADA lost me when I got
serious about my diabetes and went low carb. From the replies here I need not go any further. You so know the rest of the story. Thanks for posting. Good discussion. VL

The ADA was reliable when I was growing up.Of course that was back when we had family doctors, home visits and small local hospitals.

I am sorry to hear this — but I'm glad you found this out for the rest of us— I have not personally paid a whole lot of attention to the ADA BUT- I would have if ever I wanted to know something about D — thank you for all your good information — I have trouble concentrating and retaining what I read - so this site is great for me —

You would think the ADA would recognize the fact that what works for one diabetic will be necessarily work for another. We are definitely a group where one medicine or diet does not work for the majority. I am lucky enough to be able to include around 75g of carbs a day in my diet. If I cut much lower than that, I start to see spots (those darn dalmatians just won't stay away). I am able to maintain good BG control. If I consume more carbs than normal, I know to start exercising to pull some sugar out of my system. I try not to eat too many carbs because I don't want to get back into those bad eating habits.

outliers need not apply
low carb / keto is dangerous for diabetics … guess you missed that memo
surprised to hear you had any respect for them

well I didn't expect them to agree with me…but I did see it as a forum to expose people to different options…guess not…it is the ADA way or the highway…I choose the highway…

I was done with the ADA after my first visit with the dietitian that my doctor referred me to. Had I followed their diet plan I would be on a whole lot of meds. When I tried to explain my low carb approach I was cut off and told that my body, especially my brain, needed all those carbs to function properly. That was my first and last appointment. I've been researching on my own ever since and learning what works for other diabetics. My doctor says she is on board with my dietary approach but she really doesn't understand it and she is all about the prescription pad anyway. I wish I could find an endocrinologist with a more healthy knowledge and attitude about food.

I stopped trusting and/or using endos when I had my thyroid nightmare. I have a family physician now with a group that also treats diabetics.

I would be interesting in hearing about your thyroid problem, my endo just told me that she wants to test me for thyroid issues. the only thing I could think is ok! yet … another pill! I used to just love my endo, but the more I learn about diabetes the more I realize how little she actually knows about it. She actually had the nerve to get on me last week when I disagreed with her about something. I didn't argue with her about the problem I only suggested another way of looking at the issue and she pretty much scolded me like I was a spoiled kid. geeezzz.

I am seeing a family doctor right now but she is prescription happy and that really bothers me. Maybe I should just try to find a different family doctor and skip the endo.

Being around this great community will help you push back against the pill happy doctors. Keep looking for another doctor, or doctor's group.

Good for you! I kicked them to the curb a year after I was diagnosed. Because I worked so hard to get well after my thyroid was removed, as soon as I was diagnosed as T2, I hit the research. It didn't take me long to figure out the ADA was a joke. And the food pyramid was at the center of it. That thing is an effing nightmare, diabetic or not! I prefer groups like this and other diabetics for help and community.

Wow, don't you just love their acceptance of different ideas and thoughts on how to treat diabetes. As an fyi, the first endocrinologist I saw when diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes was, I believe, the president of the JDF. All it took was one visit for me to tell my wife that he was a condescending a-hole and there was no way that I was going to see him ever again. With that a physician friend who has Type 1 diabetes got me into the endocrinology practice where he was going and I've been going there for 27 years.

Mark didn't you get the memo…most doctors think they are a god…which by default makes them condescending a-holes…I was very lucky to find the endo I have,,,
