Had dinner with the hubby last night…we split a steak (because it was HUGE)..and we both had steamed broccoli…hubby ate two pieces of whole wheat pita..(which I don't touch anymore)…when I was taking by BG reading two hours after I ate I stuck him too…I was at 117…he was at 154…yep 150 freaking 4…from meat, broccoli and 100% whole wheat bread…as I previously stated my hubby's fasting glucose was pre-diabetic after starting Lipitor…while previously he was always in the 70's and 80's…Hubby has another Dr. appointment in 3 mos..and has told me he will eat the same way I eat from now on except he will also add two slices of whole wheat pita everyday (my hubby is arab, asking an arab to give up pita is like asking him to stop breathing)…he will give up sugar and sweets and stay away from fruits and starchy veggies and NOT be afraid of the fat…hopefully this will bring his BG back to normal and control his cholesterol…I don't need him diabetic…it really is no fun most of the time..(sometimes it is, but I am a sicko so…)..

Hi Jib Jab,
I think it's great your trying to get your hubby off of lipitor. Just make sure he's not like me that was put on it due to my body makes extra
, my hdl and all of those were so screwed up. But…for the past year my stats have been below normal and they took me off lipitor on a trail basis. Every 3 months I need to take fasting blood work to make sure it stays at normal or below. Good luck to you and your hubby. I'm pulling for him to get off.

Now your experiments have expanded....I am sure it will be another interesting one. You said he is going to stop his Lipitor and eat like you? That will be a very interesting prospect. Watch for lows though...since he's not taking the drug.

He is not diabetic…he just has lipior manufactured high BG…his fasting numbers this morning after not taking it yesterday was 89..still high for him..but not in the low 100's the way it has been…and he is still eating a couple pieces of 100% whole wheat pita everyday…so we will have the same dinner..he will just eat his with bread…and he will have bread with his breakfast…

I really hope that this works for him. I go for blood work next week and I'm talking to my doc about coming off statins, I've read and heard too much about them and now believe what I've heard and feel I need to come off. Thanks in part to you Jibber.

Don't ever believe everything you read (grin)..even if you read it here on DC…but yes Statins are evil..pure evil..and even more so for diabetics…don't be surprised if your doctor puts up a fight…if he is old school he will call you nuts…just please sweety if you do come off the statins…please google how to address cholesterol through diet…just because you aren't treating the high cholesterol with a statin..doesn't mean you shouldn't treat it at all…and you can always come here..many of us have addressed our cholesterol through diet alone..but as I have said here a hundred times…always do your own research…because at the end of the day it is YOUR health..hugs..

I take a generic of Lipitor — is that just as bad as the real thing ?? I bet so

Yep YL.
A statin by any other name would mess with your co-Q 10 just as badly.

OH boy —- dear me — well I guess so — I do take COQ10 everyday— but that's quite repent — I know something is not right bec my numbers should be lower by what I eat and drink — but something is kicking it higher — so I'm looking around to see what else may be going on — the doctor does NOT satisfy me so as usual I take my own research or the best I can — this site is super great — I'm so glad I found it — thanks for your help

I hope your diet works for him. At least he lets you test him. My husband runs when I come at him with my test kit. I wonder if I could test him while he sleeps? :)

Do you believe that your hubby has D?

sweetslover 2015-03-13 06:52:34 -0500 Report

I don't think so, but his diet is not very healthy, and I would like to know just where his BG is. That knowledge might encourage him to eat a little healthier. He also needs to lose about 15 pounds.
