I don't like what AARP did to seasoned citizens during the time around the enactment of the PPACA, however some of the information they provide can be useful.

Here is one of those pieces of info ~

(after all a broken clock is right twice a day - LoL)

I am only 47 and I STILL have to deal with those damned mailings because my hubby is 57..I think they start badgering you at 55…who the hell retires at 55?????…lmao…9 hours of sleep…who has time for 9 hours of sleep every night??? I have…house…and God forbid a little quality time alone with the hubby (wink wink)…I am happy with 6-7 on most days…which is by far more than I use to get in my 20's and 30's…

Hi James,
I'm in full agreement with everyone else. They are driving me nuts with mailings and emails trying to get me to join. The recommendations are
good but not enough to get me to join. LOL. Love you, P

I joined AARP a long time ago. I have found that I get a bargain for certain things such as gong to Denny's Restaurant after 6PM when your bill is 30% less if you show your AARP card. Saving money is a great thing. My girlfriends and I often go after a meeting for a coffeeklatch and it costs me for hot chocolate less than $1.00.

Hi RebDee
I wasn't aware of that. How find out? But I have to tell you…I still won't join. Simply because they drive me nuts trying to get me to join.
But thanks for the information RebDee. Hugs, VL

I used to be a member, but they started wanting me to send a donation every time I turn around heck I'm a diabetic, I need someone to send me a donation as well!

I get those AARP mailings too. mine goes in the garbage too. it is not work the money you have to dish out. It is really bad!!

We get mail from AARP at least 2 times in a week. We always tear it up and toss it in the garbage. My father had AARP and it cost more to have it than what it paid out.

jayabee52 2015-03-07 12:48:48 -0600 Report

I do the same thing, Bre.

Of course they send so many mailings because if they get some "sucker" to shell out for the membership, it more than makes up for the cost of the mailing. However I do receive their email in my Yahoo inbox without cost, and some of the info I receive on that has been valuable to me. (what I said about the broken clock)

What is the PP in the ACA for? I have not heard of that before.

Yeah, that all turned me off of ARP as well. I will not become a member, as I don't want them making those decisions for me.

Anyway...the slide show was good and I didn't know that 2.7 days home with the flu is how it should be. Employers need to see that. I have not had it in so long, I don't recall the days I stay home, but when I'm home sick, I have to be really sick to not do anything.

I did like the big fat ZERO on sugary sodas safe to drink. They should include sugary juices in that as well.

So maybe if I sleep more, I could actually lose weight. Hmmmm.

jayabee52 2015-03-07 09:37:02 -0600 Report

that's what it says, Sue.
However if you sleep too much . . . not good either.

I struggled with my weight when I was working insane amounts of hours.
I know I was eating junk to compensate.

This NYTimes article seems to back this up ~

I've been sleeping much better since being on insulin, but still not 7hrs straight through. I do feel better, but then I am not working anymore either. Retail takes it out of you and is more demanding every year. They finally decide to pay a decent wage, but expect you to work like a horse. I just couldn't do it full time anymore. I miss the interaction with people, but not the rest of it.

RebDee 2015-03-09 15:02:48 -0500 Report

I can't get seven hours sleep in a row. I have to stop at least twice per night for potty break. I seem to sleep better when watching tv so I therefore record everything I like on the DVR so I can see the second half of the show at a later time.

Just read the second article Why did they have to put a picture of a large bowl of ice cream at the top? Jeez! I need to go take my med.
