The powers that be in the government released their 2015 recommended optimum dietary model..They have reduced recommended fat intake even MORE…My God..isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results..My heart breaks for all of the people who are pre-diabetic and eating according to these recommendations…they release these recommendations every five years..and everytime they reduce recommended fat intake…and every year the rate of diabetes and pre-diabetes soar…yeah..I am at a total loss…

I just don't think we need our government telling us what and what not to eat. There are other, much more qualified sources for that information. What a tremendous waste of taxpayer resources.

TRIPLE LIKE…I think our government oversteps it's intended purpose on just about everything…so you don't have to sell me…

Howdy y'all!
I tried to find this information and learned that this is NOT the final version of the guidelines. The current recomendations may be found here ~

I also located a Q and A on this maze-like process here ~ and discovered the following:

"Public Comment Period
As announced in the Federal Register [PDF - 181KB], the public is encouraged to view the Committee’s Advisory Report and provide written comments through midnight E.D.T. on April 8, 2015. The public will have an opportunity to attend a public meeting to hear or provide oral comments on March 24, 2015. Registration is expected to open on or about March 9, 2015."

So if you have a point of view to share with the Feds, you can share them with them. I am trying to locate how to do that.

"Reducing consumption of red and processed meat, refined grains, added sugars, sodium, and saturated fat; substituting saturated fats with polyunsaturated alternatives; and replacing solid animal fats with non-tropical vegetable oils and nuts."
boy … not a lot to like there

Is there pyramid still based on grains as well? I'm sure it is. We eat upside down. The pyramid needs to be reversed and we would do so much better.

I guess, actually, each person should work to find what puts them in their happy place and not rely on government anything to show us the way. More often than not, we use that as a scape goat for our own failings. Take away that crutch and make us each able to choose what makes us healthy. I would rather have them spend time and funds making healthy foods affordable instead of subsidizing the cheap garbage that is sold as food.

Next Discussion: diet question. »
