I came across this article the other day and it kind of made me laugh. At least the beginning part of it. http://www.everydayhealth.com/columns/jared-b...

The gist of the article is how healthy nuts are for people, but what I found to be more interesting is how he set up a space in a store and labeled nuts differently and how people reacted more to the name attached to the nuts over maybe actual "knowledge" of what nuts do for us.

It does list 4 main nuts that work for us and it's a good read. I hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the article. I love pistachios and almonds. I need to add more nuts to my diet. I do not like salted nuts. I don't like the salt and it covers up the flavor of the nuts. I need help with most everything talked about in the article, it was great to read.

I like all nuts, but cashews. My dentist told me not to eat almonds whole, so I buy them sliced. But I prefer walnuts.

I love walnuts and almonds — I always add them to my smoothies and drink almond milk (plain). I use skim milk for baking or puddings because it seems to make a difference in the consistency. I love to eat pistachios and will start eating more of them now that I know they help with stress!

Hi Gabby: I am nuts about nuts. But my favorite is raw cashews and the doctor on the webside that you recommended never mentions cashews at all. I never eat nuts that are salted. I love peanut butter but not peanuts so much. I adore almonds. I do eat walnuts especially at Passover time as one of my favorite dishes is Charoset (chopped walnuts with chopped apples and either red wine or grape juice, which you put in the refrigerator for a couple of days so that the nuts and apples drink up the wine). YUM.

Drunk nuts? Hmmmm. LOL

My husband adores cashews. I don't know I have read anything on them really. I have seen the people that make Almond Breeze are now making a Cashew milk as well.

peanuts in coke … it's a southern thing. I remember this from when I was a kid living in Virginia back in the 60's

I've known about this for years. We've been doing this in Texas as long as I can remember with peanuts. Of courses now , I'm off of sodas and have an allergic reaction to most nuts with the exception of pecans. So you are not alone for this practice. Years ago most all of the Bars and or Taverns had bowls of salted nuts and peanuts given freely to those drinking as an enticement as a snack … But actually increased your need for increased need for another drink…lol. Now nuts have increase in price so they offer salted dried up pretzels.

Ok, but what IS the practice? You just throw a hand full of nuts into a glass of soda?

Now you are make some of show our age. Hahaha. Before cans we had bottled sodas. It was was to get a small plastic bags of salted peanuts tear off a corner of the bag and pour the content into the bottle and drink the contents.

Again, maybe this was the Original Energy Drink in those days with all of the real sugar fructose and protein from the nuts. Hahahaha Does this make me generationally challenged. I'm in a fun mood with this topic today…js. Jk.

I do enjoy my nuts once a day, I've never measured them out, but a half pound lasts me quite a while, so i don't think I'm getting a full oz a day, probably closer to 1/2 oz, but i use them as a snack when I need one. I particularly like almonds and pistachios. Thanks for the good article.

Hi Gabby,
Really enjoyed the article you chose to write about. It was very interesting and I agree, very entertaining. Jib Jab is correct in saying

nuts are wonderfully healthy. Yes very healthy and I eat 1/4 cup everyday as a snack. I love them. I buy mixed nuts and have found on the package that 1/4 cup is only 7 carbs. Pretty good huh…again enjoyed your discussion. VL

right now the local Sprout's has almonds, walnuts and cashews on sale for $4.99/pound … and it's the beginning of the month so I have food $$ to spend … hmm … decisions, decisions (1/2 pound each?)

Howdy Gabby
The article was humorous to be sure, but unfortunately due to my Kidney disease and needing dialysis I'm not supposed to consume nuts or nut butters. I used to love them and would eat them till (oops almost shared TMI). Needless to say I ate them a lot. Now I consume them only occasionally.

Thanks for sharing

James

I enjoy a handful (or 2) of nuts every day. My favorites are almonds and pistachios. I am not particularly fond of them raw, though. Peanut butter is a daily thing for me as well. I like what the article said about pistachios lowering blood pressure while under stress. I will need to remember that. I'm always looking for effective ways of dealing with stress.

I learned a few things about nuts and people. First, some people are very passionate about their nuts…OMG I started laughing when I read that…okay but seriously..nuts are wonderfully healthy…nut butters can be healthy if you buy the ones without added sugars and god awful added oils..I dream of one day waking up and having the carb count on nuts completely disappear…so I can grab a bag of good mixed nuts and eat it like popcorn…wake up Catherine!!!!…You are dreaming again…

I liked his approach to the whole thing...I found it quite amusing. It also got me back to making my almond milk again...I drink it every day. 1g of carb for 8oz glass...that's almost carb free.

Yep, I give my dehydrator a work out. I sift out the bran and just keep the rest. A MUCH better deal than buying almond flour. Though I imagine almond flour has more nutrient in it, since I have "milked" mine out.

I use almond milk everyday. I buy chocolate unsweetened almond milk and add Stevia to taste. It's a great treat.

While I know nuts are best consumed raw, I can't imagine eating a raw pistachio or peanut. Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Pecans, and almonds raw I'm good. Though I do like the wasabi almonds....YUM
