Went to see our new Doctor last Friday and was very pleased with him. He even told us that if we ever needed to see him for any reason on the same day we call, that he WILL see us no matter what! Boy that's a first. Then yesterday he personally called and talked to both my husband & I over the phone concerning our test results. My husbands was great, and he told me my kidneys,& liver, were great. My blood work was really good, and A1C was 6.1, which was down from last test which was 6.5. My cholesterol was 200 and he prefers it 170 or less, but wasn't too concerned being as all my other tests came back so good. So this Keto/Atkins way of eating is really doing great. My fasting BG this morning was 114, which is a big change from the 135-140 range. Will be continuing this way of eating. By the way, I took myself off Metformin almost two weeks ago and BG has ranged from 79 to 115, so very pleased. Told Dr. what I had done and he was ok with it and said whatever I was doing to keep it up as it was working. Going to see him again on April 4 and see what has changed since the last visit. He also took me off 4 other pills for blood pressure & water retention, and gave me one pill to take. The others were counter acting each other. I'm really liking this doctor !

Cherokeemaiden, it sounds like you found a winner in your doctor = calling you to discuss the tests, changing your medications and taking you off those that are counterbalancing each other. WOW. I had to stop my doctor from adding medication for each new symptom without taking me off any that might have been causing the symptoms in the first place.
Now I have a great doctor for Endocrinology, and won't take any medication prescribed by my PCP or other specialty until she approves. This practice has proved to be of great help to me as I have so many allergies to medications.

Hey !!! Congratulations !!!!! Wonderful numbers :)
I used to live in Ocala, FL it's beautiful country there.
Keep up the good work, I'm glad to hear that keto is working for you. Atkins knew what he was talking about.

Thank you heidi. Yes, Ocala is in beautiful country. A lot of horse country. Yes,Atkins was way ahead of his time on the low carb diet. Too bad he had to die so early, and NOT because of his diet.

He sounds like a great doctor. I wish I could find one like that. Congratulations on being able to get off the Metformin. I hope to accomplish that this year. Your numbers sound wonderful. I am very happy for you!

This is such good news for you both. Nice that your doctor is so personable.

Yes we are very happy with the results…my husband's almost always comes up good…and he eats a lot of junk food and drinks very little water. Go figure !! and so far we are very happy with the doctor, but time will tell if that holds true. Sometimes first time visits can be deceiving.

Great news! I'm jealous. Would like to get off bp med, but Dr says no.

Cherokeemaiden 2015-03-04 15:36:42 -0600 Report

Thank you, and stick with it. With my way of eating is what has done it for me. I don't know what type of diet you are doing, but hopefully you'll get off the BP meds soon.

Thank you, thank you. I am so happy with the results and really want to thank you for mentioning the Keto way of eating as I really believe that is what has done this. Will see what happens next month. Altho right now we are in the midst of trying to sell our 5th wheel, and really need for it to sell quickly as we have another place on hold, so am a little stressed right now too. So far am very impressed with new doctor, but time will tell on that too.

Howdy Cherokee
That is a great report to hear. Please continue the great work!

The Atkins way of eating is really great. My fiancee Valentine Lady has been on the Atkins plan for quite some time now and has reduced her need tor insuin injections (she gets one now once or twice a week, if over 150 mg/dl - she lives for now in a nursing home and sometimes the meals there are not so diabetes friendly) She has also lost about 80 lbs since being on Atkins.

God's best to you

Every pound lost is a gain for your health so keep up the great work. Guess it is time for me to concentrate on the Atkins Diet. I think that I almost do it now but didn't call it that.

I'm doing a Keto/Atkins way of eating. Keto is higher fat. YouTube has lots of videos on Keto if you want to check it out.
