I Finally Had a Green Day!

As many of you know, I struggle with my numbers even on meds and with having lost a lot of weight. I walk every day and try to watch what goes into my mouth. So I had taken the challenge to myself to push harder and not give up even if I have consistent bad results.

Anyway, we have a log book here available for everyone and I started faithfully entering my test numbers every day. January was lots of red and yellow. February was lots of yellow and red and ONE GREEN!! Yes, finally I had all of my test numbers come in on the green. I can often get one or two, but my other numbers kill it.

So now, in honor of March and St. Patties day…or just because I like the color green. I am striving to have more green days appear in my glucose log book.

I was thinking about this post the other day, as my summer has been brutal on me. But I am back in good ranges again and can't wait to see how Banting helps me with my glucose numbers, my insulin resistance, and weight loss. I hope to share all green days soon.

On the top of your profile page there are icons that you can scroll through. There is a blue box with a "drop" in it and below it says logbook. Click on that and it will take you to the logbook. You can set it up to be public or private and then start filling it out.

I only use the log book here for A1C readings. I use the GoMeals app for my day to day BG tracking.

Just an update...I have had many more green days. Now if I can get green weeks and a green month, I will be in heaven!! I have dropped my glucose average 70 points since January.

I was in the yellow for the last couple of days, I think I messed up with my meal routine. Today I'm back to the green, 105 fasting in the morning, woo hoo!

I would love fasting of 105. So far my lowest fasting AM number has been 110. But it usually is much higher. My morning tends to be the highest number of the day.

I am still in the yellow most of the time....bummer. But I did have another green day and I am getting closer to having more of them if I can just control my after dinner numbers. Time to re-evaluate my meal plan again. Funny how something so simple as a "green" box in my log book can inspire me.

Me too, because my computer is getting old (2006) and won't be able to replace it (SSI) I've been going back to my handy ole DayRunner Classic to 1998. DRN or DT once had a nice looking form which they don't make anymore. I wasn't diagnosed then, but wish I had it now.

That is great news, Gabby, I am glad. I like your post. I remember my beginnings with the log book when I was diagnosed. I was in my late teens and it was a little paper logbook where I'd put all my daily BG test numbers into. Day by day I'd do it and it proved very important in the long run. I could see the trends and analyze the reasons for my good/not so good results and knew what to do/not do next time. It helped me a lot and after some time I got into the routine and did not need it anymore. Even now, when sometimes levels cannot stabilize putting it down on a piece of paper for a week or two helps me a lot. Gives me the frame and is a first step towards regaining stability. It motivates me to improve and keep on going.

I keep track here in our log. You can find it in your profile page. March was okay, all yellow days though. No more green, but very close. At least there were no more red days.

Yep, I am a paper junkie. I have it in my log book, but here it does a daily average for you and then you can do a two week or monthly average as well. Very handy

Just an update. I have been having much better numbers, but I keep coming close, but no additional green days yet. I will say that at least the red is gone. March has not seen one red day...they are all yellow. I still want green. Where are my sunflower seeds....LOL

Great gabby..I have all ways kept records every day…I just got a hunting dog soooo this dog will give me a great walk up and down mountains.i guess every thing counts up so might as well be doing something you love to do.

Yep, my dogs are what keep me moving. We just rescued a little one and he likes to run and play, so that brings out the puppy in my older dog and me. LOL

Both my hubby and I have Type 2 and I have been blessed with being under the best control ever (35 years a diabetic). My last A1c was 5.3 in November but my hubby has had so much trouble with his sugars he has been very discouraged until we went for his doctors visit a few weeks ago and got the results of his A1c. When the Dr. Gave us the results my jaw hit the floor. It was 6.4 and the Doctor said he was vet pleased with those numbers. Now mind you his sugars usually run in the the upper 100's to low to mid 200's. So don't get discouraged because the Dr. said the A1c is th e number he uses to gauge how in control he is. I still have him test daily but now I don't panic like I used to. I do all the meal planning and cooking so I am still able to control what he eats for the most part. Living with Diabetes will always be challenging but don't ever give up because what might work for one may not work for another. But we can conquer those challenges one day at a time.

I am having trouble trying to get my numbers down too. I always try to watch what I eat, I don't eat sweets except a little small bowl of ice cream about once a week, or 2 graham crackers every other day, but mostly I eat steamed veggies, and a fish fillet, either a whiting, or tilapia, I eat some can salmon, or tuna with a couple crackers. I eat for breakfast an egg, or a small bowl of grits, or oatmeal with 1 slice of toast, my b/s levels is coming down slowly but surely. The doctor upped my med from 1 metformin in the morning to 2. I am still trying to cut carbs every which way I can, so any advice will be highly appreciated.

I know exactly how you feel. I have been keeping a journal and that helps me the most because it takes away the guessing how much I am eating or exercising.

I am also doing my best to keep my carb intake to less than 80g a day. That is not recommended for everyone, but for me, I have to get lower. I am also adding more good fats to my diet. I have taken grains out for the most part. I still have corn products from time to time, but I have removed gluten from my cooking.

I have been exercising daily for a long time now, but I am adding a second routine to my day and I hope that will help more.

I've only had one good morning number - 90 yesterday. Everything else is over 150, but usually under 180. Guess the only way for me to actually be GREEN is to have my jaws wired shut.

It's hard for me, that is why I was so happy to get one. I can have two numbers below 140 and then have one above and it makes for a yellow day. But my overall average is what matters most and hopefully this month I will be able to see it around 150, which is WAY better than my usual average. So keep on trying is all I can say. Writing things down is helping me a lot as I am working very hard to keep my fasting number lower. If that is lower, my whole day goes better.

Great "Green Day!" Today 2 hours after lunch (todays schedule) my BG reading was 107!!!!!! Anything under 140 is the target so I'm happy, too! I also keep a log of what I eat, BP and then my BG #.

Go to your profile page and in the squares on the top you will find one that has a "drop" and is called Log Book. Click on that one and it will open it up for you. You can make it private or public.

Hi Gabby,
Good Job! Do you write down what you ate when you are in Green? If you do, after a while you will see a pattern and you will be able to reproduce the green.

Yes, I keep a food log and I am making other notes in it as well. I almost had another green day yesterday. But just one number messed it up. Such is life.

It would be so great. I would be happy with an all yellow month, but now I have the taste of a green....I am eager to get there.
