Vitamin K 2 . How important is it for diabetics?

Vitamin K2 is made by our good bacteria in our own bodies. Vitamin K2 is necessary for the absorption of calcium. Besides the absorption of calcium, vitamin K2 is important for our blood vessels and the circulation of our blood. If calcium is not absorbed because our good bacteria are not making enough Vitamin K2, our bones become porous and weak and the unabsorbed calcium sticks to our blood vessel walls. The calcium in our blood vessels walls grabs onto the small cholesterol particles which causes clogged arteries and hardening of the arteries. Clogged arteries restrict blood flow that can cause heart attack, stroke, eye damage and numb feet etc. The very same symptoms as high blood sugar. If the good bacteria in our gut are compromised in some way, they may not make all the Vitamin K2 we need to make our bones strong and keep our arteries clear of calcium. Good bacteria are killed off to some degree by chemicals in processed foods. A major way they are killed off is by the antibiotics fed to the beef, pork, chicken and turkeys every day of their lives. The meat we eat. If on a keto diet, we tend to eat lots of meat. We can also kill our good bacteria by taking antibiotics ourselves. Taking a probiotic with an antibiotic is a good idea as we can protect our Vitamin K2 making good bacteria. It is wise to eat only meat that has not been fed antibiotics. It is available but usually costs more. We can also eat Gouda cheese. Gouda cheese is made with the same bacteria that produces Vitamin K2 . Gouda cheese is a good source of calcium too.
Question, has your doctor mentioned vitamin K2 to you at all? If you have been told to take calcium,
were you also told about vitamin k2? Calcium should come from natural sources as it is better absorbed. High blood sugar is not the only cause of circulation problems and heart disease. Have you been told this? Why not? These are important questions to ask yourselves as a diabetic. Ask your doctor about it too.
The solution is simple avoid meat fed antibiotics and eat a slice of Gouda cheese every day.

Grass fed and free range is always better no matter what you are trying to consume. My problem is cost. 3x as much the organic in the store. We have a butcher who specializes in it. I go when I can, but it's a huge chunk of the budget.

Grass fed, free range and/or organic is a joke. I can barely afford chicken when it's under $2 a pound. To be honest, if it weren't such a good source of protein I'd give up eating meat altogether as I could stretch my food budget further.
Anyone that says eating healthy is not expensive has never been poor.

I do have to agree with you. Food banks don't carry anything healthy and I have had to eat from those for a while a few years back. It was one of the better ones, we did get fresh veggies and even some butcher meat, but the rest was processed foods.

I checked out the local Food Bank, and while I applaud their efforts, the food available was … well … less than healthy. Perhaps I was just there on a bad day.

The one we used was run by a church and they had a deal with the grocery stores for fresh items. It was pre packed, so you "ordered" the box(es) that you wanted and you did pay, but it was a huge savings. But we would get lettuce, carrots, potatoes, seasonal fruit and some seasonal veggies. I like that better than the shopping in a "store" kind, because it was easy in and out. Sadly, they have closed down. Fortunately, I am not in need of them right now.

I buy a quarter or a half of a cow that my pharmacist at Walgreen raises on the side when he isn't pushing pills. I paid about $3.50 per pound processed. That included steaks and roasts well as hamburger.
This time I bought a 1500# half. I went in with my brother. He has a wife so that is three of us eating the half a cow. W each paid $500.00 and have enough beef to last over a year. You need a freezer of course and have to save up the money, but it is available at least here. Organic isn't all that important (and expensive)as nothing is truly organic, but no hormones and especially no antibiotics is.

I always thought that we should have a Vitamin D pill with our Calcium pill. Never was told about K2.

I have never been told that either. Vitamin K2 is made by the bacteria in our bodies. So we shouldn't have to worry about it, however the feed lots for animals we eat feed antibiotics to the animals every day.
We eat the animals and the antibiotics in the meat kill our vitamin K2 producing bacteria. Actually the practice of feeding meat animals antibiotics is causing super bad bacteria bugs to form. Antibiotic medication can't kill them as they have mutated. There is a strain of TB in Mexico that no antibiotic can touch. The government watches the Mexican border to try to stop it from entering.
I don't want to just be a bad news bear, but out immune system is made up of the good bacteria in our gut. They can be killed off too by the antibiotics in meat.

Thanks RosalieM: I have not eaten meat since my bariatric surgery, only turkey and chicken and fish. I was interested in learning from you that super bad bacteria bugs are formed by feeding meat animals antibiotics.

Vitamin D, calcium and vitamin k and k2 are all complimentary…they need to be consumed or taken together to work at their optimal levels…
