My diabetes is normally well controlled with my last two a1c being 4.8 and 5.0 respectively. Two days ago i had a regular lunch ( a bit high carb ) which i normally have a post meal B/G reading under 110. To my surprise it was 144. My daughter from a previous marriage was admitted to the hospital with breathing problems the night before so i lost a lot of sleep and had to be on work early as usual. My wife said the loss of sleep was the reason for my high reading. Anyone else think that would be the reason. ?

Stress of any kind can cause an increase in BG. It sounds like you'd had a stressfull period at that time, coupled with a bit higher carb lunch, that could certainly account for your higher than normal reading. A 2-hour post meal BG of 144 is acceptable for most of us but since your norm was lower, you had a valid concern.

Lack of sleep has a huge effect on my glucose as does high stress. Looks like you got hit with both at once. It will likely calm down when things get back to normal. I wish I could get my A1c down to your levels! You encourage me to keep at it.

Poor sleep affects my morning numbers badly. Nights that I sleep well I get rewarded with better fasting numbers. So that and the stress of what your daughter is going through can all add.

With normal A1c numbers as you have, I would not be overly concerned unless it continues for a while and you cannot get back down into your normal ranges.

You have wonderful A1C levels. Is sounds like you are in great control. Stress from your daughter, loss of sleep, along with a higher than normal carb intake probably all combined to give you a higher than normal reading. If this is a rare occurrence, I would not worry about it.

Lack of sleep plus stress..yeah that was most likely the reason for your higher than usual glucose level…you have an amazing A1C…and an occasional high BG level is not going to change that..even non-diabetics occasionally go up in the 140 range…deep breath…relax…
