Even though this was published by Medtronics, the ranges noted for blood glucose and HbA1c could apply to all of us. They've posted a chart for different age groups ranging from under 6 years old to adults. Here's a link to the Facebook post with the chart:

Hope you find it useful!

Thanks, for posting those numbers… As a newly diagnosed diabetic, 'the CLOSEST'; I've been able to 'come to 80'… ANY TIME… Has been: 'by skipping two meals', and sleeping a day! Being too depressed, to eat!

It was my error in posting that link since it was posted on a private group. Sorry. I did list the target goals in a post below 3-days ago after haoleboy made me aware of my error. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry for the "blocked" links…and glad I listed the target ranges in my first reply here. These are just guidelines and, as Valentine Lady notes, we need to best determine, through individual experience what works best for us. It will vary by type of diabetes and what treatment you are on. Diabetes is definitely not a "One-size fits all" condition.

Hi Lou,
I appreciate your scale, however, it's not sealed in gold. At 80 I'm
heading for hypoglycemic hell. Its not a low norm for me I'm
comfortable at 95 to 100. Over night I like to start at 125 to 130. As far as my A1C, My endo and regular dr. Wouldn't't even talk to me about getting off of my meds until the AIC was in the 5's. I'm still at 5.1…and mighty proud of it. So I suppose I'm not the norm. But that's
Okay, I know what works for me. Thanks for posting…VL

Sorry for that and thanks for the heads-up Steve! Here are the Target ranges in mg/dl:

For 13 to 19 yr olds: Before meals 90 to 130; Bedtime/overnight 90 to 150 and A1c <7.5.
For 6 to 12 year olds: Before meals 90 to 180; Bedtime/overnight 100 to 180 and A1c <8.0.
For child <6yrs old: Before Meals 100-180; Bedtime/overnight 110-200 and A1c 7.5-8.5.
This was adapted from the article "Care of Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes; a statement of the ADA" by Janet Silverstein published in "Diabetes Care 28:186-212,2010. I'm still trying to figure out how to get a link to the actual chart and if I do, I'll post it.
