My body kind of went into complete stall mode last week…didn't loose an ounce…which is very unusual…I am dropping so much weight that my own daughter didn't recognize me from behind the other day…I had been wearing the same clothes (because ordering clothes every time you drop 15 pounds is too expensive)…my belts have been my best friend…but the other day my clothes order came in the mail…finally well fitting clothes!!..I put on a pair of black leggings and a new blouse and YES ,my daughter was walking behind me for about 4 blocks and didn't realize it was me!!!!…back to the weight loss issue…as I said my weight loss had stalled…completely..didn't drop a pound…I don't know how many people reading this do atkins…or how many that do are familiar with the original atkins diet (before a lot of it was destroyed in my opinion)…but I thought I would share how I pushed the restart button and started the pounds falling off again…the Good old fashioned original FAT FAST!!!!…For three days I cut my carb consumption down to 10 grams and ate predominately fat…I would eat half a can of tuna instead of an entire can and put double the mayo…eat spoonfuls of coconut oil…eat a small green salad with chunks of blue and cheddar cheese ( more cheese than salad.)…scrambled eggs in a tons of butter…anyway..it occurred to me when I stepped on the scale and saw I was two pounds lighter than yesterday (yippee!!)…that because the NEW atkins is the one circulating now…that there was the possibility that many have never heard of the fat fast…take it and utilize if you need it and feel comfortable with it…huggles..

HI JIB JAB,
I wish I would have known this a couple of weeks ago. I had been in "stuck" motion for a couple of weeks. I will keep this for future reference
Thank you so much for post. HUgs, VL

It sounds a little like the Keto diet. Has anyone on here ever tried the Keto diet and if so what did you think? I have been reading/listening to videos on Youtube about it and it sounds promising.

it is a keto diet…any diet that puts you into ketosis is a keto diet…and because I am forever stuck in induction because of my diabetes…I will forever be in ketosis…

so basically you eat really low carb, high fat, and moderate protein? I have been thinking of trying it as my weight is coming off really slowly, and blood sugar drops are even slower. Think a keto diet out help, and would I need to get the keto strips?

There are two different kinds of keto strips..one test urine and one test blood in a manner very similar to the way we test our BG…The Blood one is by far more accurate…but also more expensive..the strips are like 6 bucks each…YEAH I KNOW!!!…I ONLY test my blood if I stop losing weight..because maybe I ate a few more carbs than I think I did and threw myself out of ketosis…when I checked last time it was showing I was still good..but I had stalled…so hence the fat fast…the urine strips are a lot more affordable..but I only recommend people use them if they can afford them (because you never know ones situation) in the beginning while they get the feel for the diet just to make sure they go into ketosis…but if you are following a ketogenic diet and losing weight you really don't need to keep checking…if the weight is coming off you are generally doing it right…and I find that it is the only diet that made my tummy disappear…On other diets I would lose but nothing seemed to get to that big old pile of belly fat I had..

Is the Atkins diet safe and effective I know it is low carb but is it healthy and safe?

Howdy Cathleen
My fiancee` Valentine Lady here on this site has been on the Adkins meal plan for at least 3 yrs and she has lost 80 lbs at her lsst weighing. So I believe it to be safe and effective.

I also have my own keto meal plan and have been on it for over 3 years and I had lost 65 lbs over 5 mo and have kept it off pretty much over that time perioe. I've agained about 5 lbs back but that was because I'd slipped a bit and need to get back on my strict meal plan.

There was much controversy around it when it was introduced…but many studies have proven it to be a safe, effective way to lose weight and control cholesterol ( even the ADA has now acknowledged it as a safe alternative diet to their own recommendations) ..it has also been linked to better heart and brain function…if done properly…I do not ever tell people to do Atkins or any other diet…I do tell people to research different options…there is much information online regarding the Atkins diet as well as other low carb high fat diets…Take a few hours when you have the time to research them…they do take a bit of getting use to…and like any diet can be hard to stick to if you don't enjoy the allowed foods…for me..my BG levels regulated from the very first meal…I was thrilled…but for some the idea of giving up grains and most fruits/starchy veggies forever is just too restrictive…AND PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOU ARE TAKING INSULIN OR ANY OTHER MEDS THAT COULD FACILITATE A LOW TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU ARE SUSTANTIALLY REDUCING CARBS!!!…I CAN NOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH…your doctor should always be consulted when you make any major dietary change because it will affect your med dosages…

oh I have gone back to real butter too, in smaller amounts but I definitely do that. I eat scrambled eggs as part of my b'fast a few mornings a week, and steel cut oats (oatmeal) old standbys that have been great for me, although I am aware many diabetics can not have oatmeal, but it keeps me full all morning long. please share other things that you are eating, that are helping. I would appreciate it

I love oatmeal & cream of wheat but way too many carbs per bowl. I make it every Friday morning for my grandsons and would take out my portion before adding sugar/milk to the cereal. Now, the boys want to eat it the same way I do so I add stevia to the pot and serve it. I usually have 3/4 of a cup and thankfully it works for me. Of course, I don't do a post meal glucose check but when I check my glucose at noon it is fine.

very nice that the boys are not eating the added sugar…it is amazing how the adults influence the children around them..10 points for you

Yes, they are drinking more water after seeing me drink water while they had soda. They wanted to know why their mom gave them soda. They asked her if she wanted them to get diabetes when they got older. They dumped out their soda and got water with mio. I'm so happy they are thinking things through :-)

thanks for the tips. I will do some of that too. I need to lose about 10 lbs. to be at ideal weight again, or maybe 8. I am so upset with myself. some may hate me for it, but I have worked really hard to get where I am and I stayed at ideal weight for nearly 6 yrs. then I started to eat too much and also some of the wrong things too often. But I kept exercising daily, the same amount of time, so I have stepped up the exercise and I am really trying to arm myself with my arsenal of "good" snacks all around me so I won't reach for some of the things my family has. They eat some good things, but as far as snacks go, they are so bad and my hubby still goes out and gets things on a regular basis with no regard to me, knowing they are some of my favorites. I did okay on v- day though, but I did allow myself hours apart, about 3 of those little heart shaped Dove dark chocolate bars!! I also love the Lindt truffles. I did not even get those I knew I just could not stay away from them if I did.

I don't do Atkins, but I will remember the "fat fast" if I stall out again on my weight loss. That seems like an idea anyone could use as long as a high fat diet doesn't hurt them.

It is my understanding..I may be wrong, but I do believe I read it somewhere chiseled into a rock when I was younger..that fat fast only works if your body is fat adapted..meaning it is burning fat instead of carbs for fuel…which is why I say it is a way to restart if you are doing Atkins..or even a similar low carb diet..

Wow, that is cool. I stalled out over a year ago and this is why I started doing the paleo and then modified it to be what I am doing now. I have jump started myself that way. I have not heard of the fat fast, but I don't follow Atkins so its just not in my vocabulary. It is a very interesting concept. I know I do so much better the less carb I consume. I have added coconut oil to my coffee today and I like it a lot. Helped me drop 130 points today from an insane dawn phenomenon this morning. So if I get stuck, I will have to remember this concept.

Wow, that is awesome, Gabby. My daughter made me some dark chocolate candy using coconut oil & cocoa. It was pretty good.

I add coconut oil to my dark chocolate that I dip fruit in. Keeps it fluid and adds some good fat to it all. YUM

I love my coconut oil…I even started using it as a makeup remover mixed with a bit of mineral oil…I really should of mentioned in regards to the fat fast that it only works if you are on a keto diet…and that it shouldn't be done for more than three or four days..because you have to eliminate a couple servings of veggies…but yeah it does shake things up and get you losing again…people stall on every diet..if you stall on a low fat low calorie diet you shake things up by adding some calories for a few days and a bit more exercise…on a HFLC diet you shake them up by adding fat…the human body is amazing…Never a day passes when I don't learn something..BUT COCONUT oil is beneficial to everyone…helps brain function..heart health and helps regulate BG…it is however expensive…I didn't use it for the first few mos I was diabetic…but I generally research everything I hear about sooner or later..decide what I want to incorporate into my protocol and what I don't…but there is so much info out there it is really hard to choose sometimes..one person cant possibly do everything..

That is the bad part. I find I want to do "everything" but you are right, you cannot. I can't keep track of it all. LOL. I love my coconut oil and I use it for so many things. The idea of it in coffee sounded kind of yucky at first, but I have chocolate coffee, and it's wonderful!
I infuse some coconut oil with mint and use it on my feet and hand, so wonderful. I have even found spray cooking oil that is coconut. So far I have liked using it.

I buy my coconut oil at Sam's Club now. It is a decent price for an organic brand that I trust. So I prefer that over the brand my grocery store sells. I was buying it on Amazon and you can get a good deal on it if you watch it and if you can get it with free shipping. I try to get it in glass jars also.

I do believe what you are saying is to shake things up. Find something that gets your body's attention again and says, yep, you're going to listen to me. LOL.

I had never tried coconut oil and decided to give it a try this month, first I was shocked at the price and almost didn't bother with it as I already have olive oil at home, but said forget it and bought it anyway. I'm really glad I did. I love it. Learning a lot of things to do with it, but I have to admit on a fixed income I am being a bit stingy with it right now.
