I was recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes. I also was recommended for the insulin pump by my endocrinologist. I have been using it for a few months. I am due to re-order supplies and at the rates they are charging even with insurance…I'm going to have to stop using it. I also checked with my pharmacy about going back on the insulin quik pens I was using prior to the pump. $250.00 for 90 day supply. I'm at my wits end. I don't know how I'm going to afford all this. I have a high deductible because I can't afford to have anymore taken out of my paycheck. Because of my diabetes and other illnesses I take a lot of meds. My husband is retired and we live paycheck to paycheck. I'm not whining…just putting this out there for my friends here on Diabetic Connect to listen, maybe give me some advice, suggestions, etc. I recently tried to apply for assistance and got nowhere. It's frustrating. Anyway…just putting this out there. Thanks for letting me vent. Have a great day all…And May You Have ENOUGH Today and Every Day! God Bless You.

The insulin pump is one of the best things for us. Do you go through medtronic , have your doctor call in a perscription. You'll have a deductable, however the pump is lifesaver.God Bless You! Mary

I don't qualify for Medicaid. I have a full time job with insurance. I can't get any aid. (That I know of)…I don't know how all that works…

Beach Betty…What kind of insurance do you have? I have BCBS of TN (where I live), and they covered my pump at 100%. I'm hoping that when I meet my out of pocket max that when I need to reorder they will cover my supplies at 100%. Have you spoken with the financial assistance staff at Medtronic? Please keep us posted. Good luck.

My pump and supplies were covered 100% because I met my deductible for that year. I have to have a high deductible to keep my payments down. I haven't spoken with anyone yet about the financial assistance. I plan on doing that Monday (my day off) Thanks for your input. It's greatly appreciated. and Yes I love the freedom of the pump. We shall see what I can find out! Thanks Everyone.

Until I reach my out of pocket max, which should be next week, I couldn't afford my Novolog even with the insurance paying, a month supply was going to cost me $400!

I'm sorry…we're on fixed income and don't have extra for much of anything…I sure don't have the hundreds of dollars that they are telling me I have to pay until my deductible is reached. I'm a positive person and I believe that there is an answer out there. I persevere thru all things. I will share my info in hope that it will be helpful to my new friends on here. God Bless You.

When I transitioned to my pump in 2011, it was more costly than MDI (Multiple Daily Injection). I have not been using a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor.) Even though I would like to use a CGM and upgrade my pump to Medtronic's 530G with Enlite (CGM), since Medicare provides no coverage for CGM's, the cost for them is way too high. I still have my Medtronic 523 Minmed Revel pump and hope I never have to go back to MDI. Hope you get some help/relief.

I'm sorry to hear all this, I am getting a Medtronics pump and I have to agree that the prices are pretty high. it seems that health insurance really do not care what works for us. I hope you can find an answer. hang in there
