I am a type 1 since age 3 and my 13 year old nephew also type 1 is coming to stay with me so I can help him with his diabetes. I ran across this article with top apps for diabetes which I'm using to help him manage his but I wanted to share.

Technology will give your nephew a sense of input, a belief in the possibility of having some control. As his aunt, both his peer and elder you can do things almost no others are able…

You can be cool, AND share the truth.

You can get into his head, and convince him, you live, as he does, and will. Others empty words with no power, from YOU they are personal. If you are straight with him, and have a sense of humor, I believe you can reach him comfortably.

Until the tech is "sentient", closed-loop and real time at the end of the day, we make mistakes. Until that can be factored out, tech is never sufficient. Until it corrects our best/worst mistakes automatically… we must always be "awake" and depend on us foremost, not it.

Well said. I agree I have to be real. His folks have 8 kids. 3 are type 1 and I think a little one on one with another diabetic May help.

That link didn't work for me, but was wondering if this was what you were looking at?

Thanks Geek, you found the correct link. All 17 points are interesting. Now all I have to do is learn how to use this danged phone and I will be less stressed. Every day (for the past 4 days) I have learned new applications. Yesterday I went back to the T-Mobile store and they showed me several more apps to make my life easier. I told her she would be seeing me a lot and she told me that I was doing the right thing, only taking in a little at a time and she welcomed my return when I knew what I wanted to learn next. So now I know the health apps, the phone apps, the camera apps. I'll stick with that for this week. Next week I plan to tackle the e-mail apps (or maybe I'll just leave that to my computer).
