I was always told since I was a kid not to drink with diabetes so I don't drink or smoke. So in 2008 when I got married I drink apple juice for champagne !! So now am about to hit 37 in few weeks my husband say he wanna take me to ❗️dinner ❗️it's bad enough that I struggle with others thing to make him happy and he said the only one this he wish in life is I could have a glass of wine With him. Am scared to try it because I don't know how to take the first sip. Any suggestion is welcome thank you.

My wife knows I quit drinking in 1977 after my first tour in South Korea and does not bring the issue up. Also, having had a Commercial Drivers License since 1991 it is not a good idea to drink but I do cook with it on occasion. Remember everything In moderation and don't drink on an empty stomach. The best of luck on date night…

Check out the amount of carbohydrates in wine. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. As long as you stay away from wine coolers and sweet wine, you'll be fine. I am a wine taster and collector by hobby. My wife and I almost always have wine for dinner and my numbers and A1C are great. Enjoy yourself and keep to an otherwise low carb eating regimen. A glass or 2 of wine will not hurt as long as it is not a sweet one

Hi Ruth,
For my Valentines Day birthday this year I had 1 1/2 glasses of a blush wine. Its a sweet wine a very nice taste. My BG went to 133
with the wine and dinner. (For dinner I had steak, salad and broccoli. I was tipsy, but still had all my senses
guess you could say a little silly. James did not put a guilt trip on me or pressure me in any way shape or form. Nor would he. To wish you
would have a glass is still putting a guilt trip on you. That's wrong.
Yes, he'll love you if you don't indulge but there's always next time.
You have some wonderful advice here. Use it wisely.. Remember
of course you love him but love yourself too. Whatever you decide to do should be because YOU want it that way. Happy early birthday to
you. Hugs, VL

My family, had wine at every dinner table. Each of us had a glass, yes even the children. I am Portuguese, and that is very normal for our culture… I don't want to sound like a total square, but have you discussed this with your Doctor or your Nutritionist? They might have some really level advice. Most importantly, NEVER do anything that you don't want to… and NEVER do anything just to please anyone… except yourself.

Hey! Well, I must confess that not drinking or smoking is also on my list. But, the drinking mostly cause there aren't many alcohol beverages that I like the taste of. From reading other people's posts & you replies — doesn't sound like your man is pressuring you so I won't add my 2 cents about that. I think it's sweet that you would like to try something so he feels comfortable drinking with you & not uncomfortable because you don't drink. However, I agree with others that this gesture shouldn't make you feel locked into anything.
But, I've gotten off the point I was wanting to pass along. I have found 1 wine I can tolerate (maybe half a glass), but only because I feel like I'm choking down cough syrup. I'm in awe of all the people that love wine & wonder what's up with my taste buds. ;)
On the other hand, it's awesome not to have something else to cut back on or cross off the list entirely. Another alternative to taking a baby step into wine is possibly trying a cider. Hard cider have been creeping up the popularity ladder & while out with friends a few months back I tried Ace's Pear Cider (looked exactly like white wine) & it was something I could drink from time to time. I actually was able to listen to the live music & sip it like a normal drink instead of wondering how much more I have to drink to not waste money.
Please, nobody misunderstand… I know she nor I have to drink & I know I don't have to choke down anything. I'm just a girl who uses humor & sarcasm to make my way through life. I will end with saying - if you try it & like it - remember moderation…yada, yada, yada (But, I know you know that)

Ruth: This is strictly my opinion. You are not stopping him from drinking the wine. There is no need for you to drink any alcoholic beverages unless you want to do it. Someone needs to be the "designated driver" and you are it. I used to drink Sparkling apple cider instead of champagne. Now I can't even have that as I am not allowed even soda because of the bubbles which are not good for my stomach. Sit him down and tell him you love him and you want to be with him for a long time and so you are trying your best to be healthy and that is one of the reasons that you don't drink or smoke. I hope this works.

Ummm people that love you should not try to pressure you into drinking…even in small quantities…that being said one glass of red wine will not hurt you..may get you tipsy…I do not drink and tried wine a few weeks back and just a few ounces made me dizzy..if your hubby doesn't stop pressuring you and you decide to capitulate one glass of a DRY red wine is fine…but have you asked yourself what is next???…Will one glass on one occasion be enough for him…or will he want you to drink more frequently once you have that first glass…??

One glass of DRY wine won't generally hurt you, although, in some cases, any alcohol can cause a drop in blood glucose leading to a low blood sugar episode. (I know from experience.) It's all tied into how the human body metabolizes alcohol. Make sure that you are eating something along with drinking the wine if you opt to go that route and limit yourself to a single glass, particularly since your body is not accustomed to alcohol. You may find you don't care for the taste.

one glass of wine is just fine, just watch your numbers, as long as you do that you will be ok, but you have to decide for yourself. Oh, and happy birthday early. :)

from what I understand wine is better than beer. You can check out the information about a certain wine before you order it red wine is good for medicinal purposes but as chenry stated one glass only.
