Welcome Cathleen1 to DC. It sometimes takes a while to adjust to the new diagnosis. Take things one step and one day at a time. Most people here use a low carbohydrate diet to help with keeping their blood glucose under control and help with loosing weight. You might look into that or feel free to ask about it here. Don't worry your not falling apart. Best of health to you.

Thank you everyone, I am still emotional about this but seeing your replies brought me to tears I can feel the love LOL. I get my medications and diabetes kit today, a good thing is our insurance covers these things one hundred percent. I will have metformin but I cannot take that yet as the doctor wants me to start a cholestrol med first , my ldl cholestrol is high because of the diabetes, I feel like such a mess! I do not want to turn fifty this year and fall apart!! Has anyone done other things like drink apple cider vineagar or take chromium cinnamon supplements?

Hi Cathleen, Welcome to the community! Getting a diagnosis can feel scary, but you are taking a great first step in reaching out. I'm sure you'll find many people hear that can relate with your experience and who you can find support from. Early on, it's important to ask plenty of questions. You're learning to cope with a new normal, so dont be shy to ask your doctor questions or ask others about their experience.

Hi Cathleen1,
I was just recently diagnosed T2 also. What a shock! I know how you feel. It will take you some time and a lot of experimentation to figure out what will work for you diet wise. I have been testing my blood glucose several times a day now since late December and just had my first below 100 reading yesterday. Don't get discouraged, if I can do this you can do it too. The people here are really great! Sandi

Hi Cathleen, welcome to DC! This is a great place to learn what you need to know. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 1 1/2 years ago. It took a little time for the shock to wear off. Then I went right to work getting control of my diet and exercising. My doctor also put me on Metformin. I've lost over 90 lbs. and have pretty good control now. It does take time to get the hang of things. Try not to be overwhelmed and just take one step at a time. Learn all that you can from a variety of sources. Use what works best for you and don't fret about the rest.

What worked for me was very careful control of my diet and a LOT of exercise. I am also on Metformin which I am told helps with weight loss.
