I think i tend to get a little cranky toward the end of my month—you know— right before payday when my "good" foods start to run low. Tomorrow is payday and for the first time in a long time, I am looking forward to it. It still won't be easy and will surely give me a headache reading all those labels, but at least I'll have some fresh food in the house and a little more variety on the table. Still haven't quite got the hang of only one paycheck a month, but working on it. This month the sun is shining and it is beautiful outside…mid 70s It's been a rainy winter so it's nice to see some sunshine finally.

I hate grocery shopping…I am a relatively young chicky at 46, but even I am amazed at how much food has gone up over the years…My husband and I have a great many responsibilities and support about a dozen people in two overseas countries right now…so money is as tight as it can possibly be…I am generally a fanatic when it comes to food shopping…when something is on sale I will buy a metric ton of it…I still have butter in my freezer I bought at was on sale $1.99 a pound…now I go into the store and see it for 4 bucks and change…not cool…I try to eat fresh veggies but always have my freezer stocked with frozen (that I buy only when on sale) for weeks when the fresh are not on sale…I eat canned tuna a couple times a week…today the star kissed was on sale two cans for one dollar…Jackpot!!!..20 cans of tuna…and I am fortunate enough to have a membership to restaurant depot because of my hubbys work…ALL of my meat and poultry come from them..and a lot of my produce because it is so inexpensive.( but it is not even worth it to buy some things because they come in huge sizes that there is no way I can finish before spoiling)…I feel for those who don't have access to trade markets like restaurant depot…If things keep going the way they are…with the cost of prescription drugs going up and the price increases in food..I just don't know how people are going to live..

With a weekly food budget of $45 I'm all about the bargains … but buying in bulk just isn't an option … and anything "organic" is out.
Challenging, but doable.
Good thing I only eat two meals a day.

Don't know how you get by on 2 meals a day. Seems like I am almost always hungry. If they take my nuts away, don't know what I'd do.

Two meals a day is actually very doable. When you eat a high fat low carb diet…and a better way of doing low carb than the way I am doing it…One of my goals is to introduce intermittent fasting into my diet plan…but with my insane schedule right now blocking out a window of 4-6 hours a day to eat just isn't doable…classes…study groups…work..grandma duties…I eat when I can..and sometimes spread "a meal"..over a period of an hour or so…lmao..a bite here a bite there..because well…that is just the way my life is at this point…I am sure it will get better in a few years after I graduate and I don't have to chase my granddaughter down because she is going into a non baby friendly zone or doing something mischievous…

I eat high fat and have no calorie restrictions so what I eat is very filling. Also, it is true that your stomach shrinks and I just never get hungry … even on my weekly 24-hour fasts. It really is not as hard as it sounds once your body adapts.

I work that way too and it takes a lot of getting used to. The consistant money only comes once in the month. The rest is trickle in if it comes and I have to be sure to save some for those months when nothing else comes in. I buy a lot of BOGO's when I shop and something new I have started is with the coupons from the paper. I just clip what I need and use them as my shopping list. Not always successful, but it keeps the bill down.

Suecsdy - You are preaching to the choir!! I'm chomping at the bit for my next paycheck so I can replenish my pantry & frig - especially get some fruits & veggies back up in here. I don't get paid once a month, but running my own business makes pay be all over the map & by the time I pay bills, etc - the end of the month is uber stressful! Over the last week & a half I've been going into my kitchen & looking at the canned items & few things lurking in my freezer…but secretly dreaming about getting the good & healthy stuff!
I don't think budgeting is in my genes — ranks up there with organizing, cleaning & controlling my eating — it's possible but on the rougher days…this girl is going to white knuckle all the way through it.
Super happy to hear the weather is a bright side to it all! Hope you enjoy your trip to the grocery store!

I'm wanting some seafood and there is none in my freezer…my freezer hasn't been this empty in a long time. I should take this time to defrost it. It might keep my mind busy for a few hours.

I get paid once a month too. I buy enough food that keeps well frozen for the entire month on payday. I set aside a few dollars and buy fresh stuff again half way through the month. I never run out of good food.
