I was 45 when I went back to school…Yep was the oldest person (still am) I most of my classes..What kept me from going to college when I was younger was always Math…I was always in the gifted programs but struggled with math on a daily basis…when I started college I placed in advanced English…and remedial Math…yes remedial math…took me three semesters just to finish those classes…I am Now in college algebra and just took my first big test..we have had several quizzes that I aced but they are not counted the same as a test…I just received my score via blackboard…106…yes 106…yippee for me!!!!..Not only did I get all the regular questions correct..but all three of the bonus questions…I know to some this is NOT a big deal…but I have a 4.0 GPA…and my biggest fear every semester is some nasty Math test coming along and screwing that up…feeling good right now…I past a college level math test…!!!!!!! with an A..!!!!!!! tooting session over…

I was 59 when I graduated college. Hated math. Loved history and English. Started back to college when my youngest two daughters started college in 1991 so I was the oldest student in the school. Once, this young 25 year old teacher tried to tell the class about something that I had lived through and I knew he was wrong so I told him after class and he looked it up and told his class he was wrong. Another time, I looked at my history book and discovered that the author was a boy I had dated many years before in high school. But I am sure glad I got my degree even if it was better late than never.

Congratulations! I too have math problems (har, har) Not sure why. You make me feel there is hope for myself in that you did so well. Keep up the good work!

Really good job ! That is definitely worth being proud of ! I suck at math. That is why although I'm going to school it is not a traditional school, I couldn't do that kind of math at all. I'm doing a certificate class in computer education. I wish you the best. Heidi

Thanks for your help. As you can see, I was able to change my picture. It is a before (2013) and after 2014). It shows my 50 lb weight loss. I am proud of myself. Now all I have to do is lose another 20 lbs.

Good for you ! You deserve to toot your own horn. Basic math I was good at, algebra was so so, but geometry…forget it !! Any math problem that takes a whole blackboard to calculate is way too tough for me. But sounds like you've got a good start on it. Wishing you the best. Hugs !

Its funny but since having taken algebra and geometry, I have not had to use it even once.

Congratulations! I only had one 4.0 GPA and, I too, had difficulty with the math courses (although I loved geometry in high school…go figure!…no pun intended!) What are you majoring in?

My major is education, however that will be changing…I have always wanted to be a teacher, but with the new common core curriculum, I am finding it very difficult to get excited about teaching…Sad, but true…I am meeting with one of my advisors this week…will probably change my Major to English..I have already taken..English comp 1 and 2, and british lit 1..I am currently taking British lit 2, as well as a creative writing 1…I love English..and with an advanced degree I could teach on a college level…

I majored in French with a minor in English and Ed. I taught junior-senior high for one semester as a substitute for someone on a leave of absence and realized teaching at that level was not for me…more disciplinarian than teacher. I then went to work for a business and wound up teaching people how to do their work which was much more rewarding because the people in class were motivated to learn to do their jobs. I also coordinated training programs. I would think college level would also give you more motivated students. I continued working 24 years for that company until 1994 when I left to join my husband in his retirement. Wishing you well!

Congratulations! I'm proud of you. Math was not my best subject either. Algebra? Forget about it! I did well in business math and accounting, though. I wish you great success in whatever it is you want to do with this education.
