Hi Everyone,

I was seriously wondering if anyone has had the experience of having really weird dreams when their blood sugar drops down a bit? (low 80's) I do not take any meds for my T2, I am still working hard to get that A1c down. I have lost 36 pounds and my A1c is now nearing the "normal range" but is still high. (5.7)
I think that my early morning lows is making me dream crazy stuff!! So crazy, that I often wake up in a full panic.

I am open to any advice.

Thanks so much.

I have not had enough lows to figure out if I do that, and I usually have lows when I am awake...so I cannot say. I do know that I have really weird dreams if I take any kind of pain medication before I go to bed. They are entertaining conversation in the morning though. Nothing that scares me anyway.

Dreams can be wierd even dreams which are not influenced by diabetes and highs or lows. I had crazy dreams long before I had diabetes.

I had one recurring dream which had a variation on a theme. I had issues in my professional life, and it would spill over into my dreams long before I had diabetes. That didn't stop once I was Dx'd. Only recently I realized that I stopped having that dream about the issue I had when I was in my profession. Perhaps I realized that what happened happened and nothing was gonna change it. I finally accepted it. I had been dreaming other stuff instead recently.

I read somewhere a long time ago that most dreams are slightly scary. Don't know where I read it.

I found this article in psychology today (while looking for the above) that has many links to look at regarding dreams. You can find it here ~ Why we dream is still one of the behavioral sciences' greatest unanswered questions.

God's best be to you

Hi Debs
I don't know if there are any correlation between the 2 but I do have some mighty weird dreams. But I think I always have. I've been a diabetic for 8 years and have never heard of this before. It could be an effect from another medication. I know some depression meds can do that. Just a thought. VL

My med's don't include any antidepressant stuff… aspirin, levothyroxine, benadryl, hydroxaizine, zyrtec. I have a bunch of weird allergies. The last 3 meds are to treat allergies. Without them, I would have to carry around a bag of pine cones to use for scratching all of the itchy spots. LOL

Hi Debs
Have you been on levothyroxine for awhile or for a short period? Because in some instances can cause weird dreams. Least ways that's what my nurse told me. But usually it's in the early days , weeks etc. of taking it. I take it too
but don't remember that far back. VL

I have been on Levothyroxine for over 10 years.. Well, ever since they removed my thyroid gland. I just had my Tsh, series done.. all checked out good.

Hi. Debs
Well you got. me. I have no idea what
causes your weird dreams. I tried to help, but to no avail. Hope this gets
better for you.

Me too!! Especially since the dreams freak me out, wake me in a near panic state… and then I find something to EAT. Then my morning sugar is no bueno. strange and frustrating… I am going to try some herb teas and see if they help.

Hi Debs
I think a nice herb tea would be wonderful. I also think if the dreams continue I would bring it up to my Dr. Don't know really what he can do but you never know. Hugs, VL

I have had some pretty strange dreams when my over night numbers are low. Just the other night I dreamed that my doctor cut both of my thumbs off. when I woke up in a cold sweat, my BG was 50. so I do think that there is a link between the 2 things.

Dear Friend, I just have to tell you that my last FREAKY dream was about a spider, bigger than a beach ball… hanging over my head. It had really angular legs, and was a black as coal… YEP I was out of the bed, standing on my feet… and searched the whole room with a flashlight… wow, all that before 4 am. Let me just add, that was a very LONG day. LOL I hope that this gets better.

Since I have started getting my BG under control, I have found that I am sleeping better. That gives me a chance to go through all the phases or sleep, including the dream phase. That may be what is happening to you. Some of mine are a little strange, but I believe that is the nature of a lot of dreams.

I don't think that I dream at all. However, when my BS goes down, my breath gets bad and my dog wakes me so that I can get something to eat.

What a GREAT dog you have!!!

RebDee 2015-02-04 20:33:13 -0600 Report

His name is Artemus Gordon of the Wild Wild West. Do you remember that tv series? I was friends with Ross Martin the actor that played the part of Artemus Gordon. After Ross died, I named my dog after him. It fit him nicely.

Might I add that I name all of my dogs with a US at the end. I have had Barnabus, Arilius, Marcus, Artemus, Phyllus, Dryfus, Barabus, and Carnabus. The US is because he was a part of us.

NICE! I don't have any dogs, there are 3 cats that live in my home, combined they own 3 humans. I was told by a vet, that people can never "own" a cat… but cats elect humans as stewards. LOL

I think cats are cute but I am terribly allergic to them as is my daughter and grandsons.
