When ingesting proteins and fat contented nutrition, how does one calculate insulin need, if at all?

Protein (and fats) digests so slowly it may only cause a slight rise in one's BG (blood glucose) levels. But protein does not a complete meal make. Even veggies and fruits have carbohydrates (carbs) and those are what are to be included in calculating insulin need.
