Hi I'm new to this group just found out that I'm a diebtic and my sugar level or in the 300 but I feel great please help me with ideas to lower it and I'm on the pills only

Hi and welcome to DC. Like Lou said cutting down on carbs is the best way that I know. The first way for a lot of people is to get rid of the junk food, the soda's and white breads and pasta and potaoes. Read labels on everything you eat and see how big a serving size really is and how many carbohydrates are in it. A measuring cup and scale are your friend. I wish you well. Heidi

The first piece of advice I would give is for you to become "Carbohydrate Aware". Determine how many grams of carbohydrate are in everything you eat. Figure out how many grams you are currently eating per day and reduce them. You can do this bit by bit until you achieve the results you want. The more you cut out, the better your results should be. This should reduce your Blood Glucose (BG) levels and may have the added benefit of helping you to lose weight. Read all the labels of the food you buy for serving size and carbohydrate grams. There is no one "right" level of carbs for everyone. It depends upon your age, gender, height, metabolism and activity level. For me 120 grams per day is my limit. I've been able to keep my HbA1c levels in the 6's and maintain my weight at 120 lbs (I'm 5'3' tall, 65 years old, moderately active and female). For me, controlling the carbs has been the key to good control.
