New to diabetic connect

I just joined diabetic connect last night, I'm not diabetic but I have family members and close friends who are and I just want to understand diabetes better so I can be more supportive to them…I bake for a living and would be interested in receiving some new to me recipies which my family and friends might enjoy and in the process could help me loose some weight…it would also be nice to meet some new interesting people…

Oh, baking for a living. That sounds divine. I love to bake and being diabetic put a damper on it at first. But I have found alternative flour cook books that have helped me explore baking again. I use a lot of coconut flour and home made almond flour or meal to bake with. I do a lot of crust-less baking as well. There are some recipes here, but with your expertise, I would suggest exploring those venues.

I'm from Ga. My meals are plainplain. I eat lots of eggs, pork, turkey, chicken, fish which are all baked. My problem is what other stuff can u put on your plate to have a balanced meal

I've been baking since before I could read so I guess baking is more of a passion than a job…Using alternative flours for baking is something that interests me as I have some gluten free customers as well as diabetics and would like to give them all a larger selection of goodies, but everyone can always use more healthy options and I think this will be a great place to start expanding my knowledge of healthy alternative items…and meeting new friends is an added bonus…

Unfortunately I have stopped eating anything made with grain, so I am not much help there. But you might find some recipes using almond flour which are low in carbohydrates.

There is a great recipe section at the top of the page here, I suggest perusing through it and really looking at the carb content as some of them are really not all that low in carbs. Thanks, Heidi…I'm still learning to natigate around the site and I haven't checked out the recipie section yet…I would send you a friend request but I haven't figured that section out yet either…this sounds like it is a very positive, supportive and caring group at this site…
