Finally have an appt with the neurologist next Tuesday at 1:00pm. I am scared silly and nervous. The appt is clear on the other side of town and I do not like to drive, so I hope to have a few nerves left when I get there. And better take my blood pressure meds before I go. Wonder how much fluid I can drink between now and then. Please send some good thoughts my way for a positive outcome.

Here's an update on yesterdays appt with the nephrologist. So much info to process, i did not want to talk about it yesterday. I have at least 50 percent kidney function at this point and according to the Dr. that is enough to keep me going for a long time, however since I do not have enough medical history for her to be really sure where my status is I am going to get the full on panel of kidney tests…24 hr urine, special blood test and kidney ultrasound. Also said I am nowhere near needing dialysis and may not be for years. And that the levels may indeed change with these more in depth blood tests. Told me I should not be stressing over this and that did help me to relax a little and my morning read was back down under 100 today. It is still kind of depressing me
The Dr. could not pinpoint a cause for this issue and thinks it may be a cumulative effect from surgery, a uti I had when in the hospital and new drugs, and maybe a lttle from dehydration While simvastatin may be good for the cholesterol, it may not be so good for kidney function and can be contributing to this problem, but she did not want to change any meds at this point.
On a better note, I managed to lose a lttle over a pound since the end of dec…may not seem like much, but for me it's a big step. I only got lost once on the way across town and was able to get back on track without trouble. Proud of myself for that since i do not care for driving much out of my comfort zone. Getting home was easier. While I was there I bit the bullet and got vaccinated for flu and pneumonia. Now both arms hurt and wishing I had just used one arm instead of splitting them up
Now I'm going to enter the realm of TMI… I have mentioned before that I have a colostomy. This morning I woke up and my stoma fired off a long audible fart. Wonder if my body was commenting on current issues or if this is how my day will be. LOL I need little levity right now.

I know nothing about Nephrologist's so wouldn't know what to ask or anything like that, but I do know how to pray. I promise you'll be in all my prayers and all I ask in return is you let us know how you make out after the appointment. Best of luck and best of health. Heidi

Howdy Sue
Do you mean Nephrologist (Kidney Dr) instead of Neurologist (nerve Dr)?

Drinking excess fluid won't help you, unless the Dr wants you to pee for a urinalysis.

You may ask Dr about what your GFR (Glomular Filtration Rate) is and what level your kidney disease is at currently. You would like to know how close to dialysis you are currently. You might wish for Dr to explain your BUN and creatine numbers as well

Praying for a good visit with the Dr

Trying really hard not to stress, but not doing a good job of it. The next 4 days are going to be a bitch. I think there's going to be a lot of crocheting going on. I don't think I'm anywhere near dialysis yet and I'm hoping I can reverse my numbers. I found a good chart on the net to help me see where I am. It's kept me fom going crazy while waiting for my ins to approve this consult. It's just finally having the appt is making me nuts. And those questions are already on my page long list. Need to stay positive until then. There's no reason to panic.

Yes , James I did. I was on my kindle and it autocorrected for me. Drinking more may not help for Tues, but won't hurt in the long run. I was not getting enough fluids and am trying to pay more attention to the fluid intake.

OMG I HATE driving as well..I am a native New Yorker born and bred we have buses on every other corner and the best Subway system in the reason to drive anywhere…Down here it is different , the public transportation sucks eggs…I have been to driving school TWICE..have all the fundamentals down…and as long as my driving instructor is next to me..(with that extra break) I can drive fine..don't even break a sweat…but just watch me try to pull out of my driveway by myself…Prayers are surely coming your way from me…I know nothing about the kidneys and can't help…just figured I would put a smile on your face with the imgage of my son's face going white five seconds after I start the car and start backing up…hee hee

We will keep you in our prayers. It is always interesting to meet a new doctor and get to know the new staff. It can be such a relief when they are actually nice.

Thanks, Gabby. I was thinking maybe y'all could help me with some questions that I should have ready to ask. My a1c. Blood pressure and cholesterol numbers were all good. Only the bun and creatinine were up. I read that it could be as simple as upping my fluid intake. So what should I be asking?
