Like most diabetics I looked for quick meal replacements that are diabetic friendly that I have on hand when I don't have time to cook…I don't use them much because I feel the need to eat REAL FOOD…But in a pinch sometimes they are necessary..I started out with glucerna shakes…that didn't go well..way too many carbs and the ingredient list was appalling..I then went on to Boost glucose control…yummy and half the carbs of the glucerna…but when I decided to go ultra low carb I switched to atkins shakes…the vanilla has only one carb and the ingredient list is much more respectable than the previous two…BUT I found myself forcing them down because I didn't really like the way they tasted…BUT I jst whipped up a shake that was so delicious it made me want to run out to get more atkins shakes…I took a vanilla shake..a little bit of full fat cream…a touch of vanilla extract and some ice and whipped it up in my nutra bullet until it was a yummy creamy delite of a replacement meal…and between the shake and the cream..TWO carbs..oh yeah baby…I figured I would pass it along..

That sounds so yummy. I am like you, need that real food. But sometimes a smoothie, shake or juice just hits the spot. Someone shared with me about taking a chocolate based shake, adding a scoop of sugar free butterscotch pudding powered to it and there you have a "Butterfinger" shake. All it takes is a little creativity. Some fail, but when you find that one...it's nirvana!

Sounds like it could be good. I've not tried any of the shakes before, mostly because of the expense, and also because I'd rather eat food than drink it. But it might work for me in the summer time when I'm not in the mood to eat, when it's too hot to eat. I'll try to remember this idea. Thanks. Heidi

I have a magic shake mix like yours that I created myself. It raises my blood sugar very little. It has 10 grams protein and tons of fiber. It tastes like a vanilla or chocolate malt. I add frozen broccoli or kale and berries. No preservatives,
no sugar or artificial sweetener, no ice cream either Carbohydrates next to nothing. It is a complete balanced meal. No I will not give out the recipe. It is legally protected.

Legally protected? And a complete balanced meal? That means that it contains a healthy variety of foods, with a number of different nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals, possibly fiber, and possibly omega-3 fatty acids.

I wish I could use these but the artificial sweeteners they contain just don't agree with me.

I feel for you..there have been a few things I have tried that made me wish I hadn't…but lucky for me I can tolerate artificial sweetners in small amounts..I had to get use to drinking my coffee in a way that was not "light and sweet"..thank God I adjusted to just one packet of splenda in my coffee…I would hate to think of how MISERABLE I would of made everyone around me in the morning if I didn't have my cup of Joe..

The only sweetener I can get away with is Stevia. I have learned how to make my own smoothies with almond milk and small amounts of fruit. Not always convenient though.

Under no circumstances do I ever replace meals with a shake. I prefer to buy food and cook it. I prepare enough for additional servings. I am not into all the additives in the shakes that makes them "healthy"

In a perfect world I would agree..but I have a hubby..a son..and grand children that raid my fridge on a regular basis…the cooking extra thing WOULD work if it wasn't for this fact…lmao

I know what you mean. I have gremlins in my refrigerator that find my left-overs, no matter where I hide them. :) They are even considerate enough to leave the empty plate or container in the refrigerator for me to find.
