I've been doing great lately, but today I feel like I'm sliding down into a little depression and don't even know why. Sugars are good, bills are paid, being good with my diet. So why do I just feel like crying?. Going to get out and do some walking around today and maybe I will feel better. The sun is shining and the temp is warmer. I hate days like this. Need something to make me laugh.

I was prone to bouts of melancholy before learning just last week that I am diabetic. Now I fear they will be more common. I am still working through the acceptance of my new reality but I am keenly aware that developing new coping mechanisms will be necessary.

In my house is a room we haven't used yet. Two sitting chairs are there, as well as the bass violin I haven't learned to play yet and books I have yet to read. Perhaps I will be spending time in there after all.

I hope your sense of depression was short lived.

Thanks for your concern. It doesn't usually last long, it just hits hard and without any rhyme or reason.
Welcome to whole new world. This is a good place to come for advice and support. Being fairly new to this myself, I can understand how you must be feeling At first I felt pretty overwhelmed, since I am the only one in my family. It was a huge adjustment. Now that you know that diabetes may have been causing your mood swings, and are getting treatment, they might just be less frequent. Anyway, welcome to DC and God's blessings to you.

Hi suecsdy,

so sorry to hear you are feeling down. Sometimes those down days just seem to come from out of the blue. Here's a link to an article I posted awhile back:

Glad you reached out for support. That always a good thing to do when you're feeling down. Keep us posted on how you're doing, my friend.

I had one of those days last Saturday. I call them 'melt downs." Exercise is about the best thing I have found to pull me out of them.

Find something to do that you feel passionate about. It doesn't matter what it is . Soon you will forget that you are depressed. I got real passionate about figuring out diabetes. Instead of it making me depressed, it enriched my life.
