My husband is a newly diagnosed diabetic and last night his bs was 414 and it went down after a while but now is saying his chest hurts is this a normal symptom to have

Chest pain is something that needs to be taken very seriously…always calls for a trip to the ER…unless you are certain you know what it is…most of the time it is nothing…but people…especially people with diabetes, who run a higher risk for heart disease need to be very careful…I hope he is feeling better..

If these symptoms continue, I'd definitely call the doctor as soon as possible. 414 is very high, and can cause some serious difficulties. Best of health to you and your husband. HEIDI

Untreated high blood sugars or prolonged high BG's can lead to DKA (Diabetic KetoAcidosis) or many other complications. One of the symptoms of DKA is difficulty in breathing. Some of the other long-term complications may be heart-disease. I would suggest that he/you call his doctor about this new symptom since I wouldn't want to take any chance that it will go away on its own without causing further difficulty or damage.
