I have no problems with any of my veins and it is easy for them t get blood from me..BUT THEY STILL end up hurting me sometimes..there is one chick I wont even let near me…If she is the only one there I will come back the next day for my blood work…it is almost like she is "afraid" to stick me..I actually told her once…"for crying out loud just stick the damn needle in already!!!"..

I have very poor veins in my arms, and the only place you are guaranteed to get more than one vial of blood from is from my thumb. I know this hurts the most, but I also know this works, so i tell them to go there, and they always argue with me. i tell them 3 pokes and we are done. They do two pokes in the arm, and can never get more than 1/2 a vial of blood and finally agree to go for the thumb and are successful. Yes, it hurts, but it works so I hate when they argue with me. Also for IV's if I am at an ER I always ask to have an EMT put the IV in as nurses almost never can get one in on me. Takes them multiple tries. Just bad veins. oh well LOL Heidi

The Phlebotomist at my doctor's office does a really good job. She finds it on the first try every time. I am always surprised because all growing up they always had a hard time finding my veins and I felt like I had to talk them through it every time. I used to tell them which is my good arm, but I don't anymore cause they just do it and they do it great. Yay for good phlebotomists. :)

When I go to the lab to have blood drawn, I show them exactly where they are to put the needle. If they say that they don't think they can get blood from there (inside part of right elbow), I ask for a different phlebotomist. If they argue, I tell them that if they don't go where I tell them, then when they give me a black and blue mark somewhere else on my body, I will kick them hard enough that they will get a black and blue mark on their body. They think I am kidding. I am not. But it has never had to come to that as they can get the blood exactly where I tell them to get the blood. Then I can thank them. I just hate when they are students and don't really know what they are doing yet. I don't want people trying by grinding around in my body.

I have rather prominent veins on my arms … one in particular in the crook of my elbow that new phlebotomists can't resist … problem is it rolls. Last trip in I got the FNG and he stuck that big vein … which of course rolled … causing some spurting, a big mess, a lot of apologizing and later a large bruise. The poor guy was so shaken up he had to have the more experienced blood sucker finish filling the vials.
