What is the time interval after your dinner and fasting sugar reading? Is it necessarily has to be at least 8 hours? Can you please let me know what's the exact time interval? Thanks.

I have a set time that I take my night time meds at 8:30pm every night so I check my sugar at that time. I get up around 7-8am and first thing I check my sugar.

Here's a link that might explain what "fasting" means: http://www.questdiagnostics.com/home/patients...
Usually, it means going without food or drink (except for water) for at least 8 hours and up to 12 hours prior to the blood being drawn. How long to fast may actually depend upon what you are being tested for. Here's another link that suggests the interval for a "fasting" test for lipids should be 10 hours:

Other links that suggests it should be up to 12 hours. When in doubt, ask your doctor.

I am type 2. I take my last reading 2 hours after dinner which is usually around 8 pm. My fasting is taken first thing when I wake up in the morning. On days that I work that is around 5:30 am. On days that I don't work it is between 6 and 7 am. So…that's at least 9 hours for me. Sometimes I may test just before bed if I ate something unusual for dinner or have an occasional evening snack. When I used to eat a bedtime snack I would test before (around 10:00pm) so it was about 8 hours. Interestingly I had higher fasting numbers then. I stopped the bedtime snack on the advice of friends here and it did wonders for lowering my morning fasting reading.

I don't think there is an exact time. I take mine before I go to bed and then again the first time I wake up in the morning. I have not been told I have to have a time between. I usually go to bed around 10:30 and get up around 6:00. That is about 7.5 hours, but it can vary.

hi, I have a pretty messed up sleep/eat schedule, so mine probably isn't the one to go by LOL. I eat my main meal around 11am, and then I eat my last meal at about 4pm and go to bed at about 4:30 or 5 sometimes as late as 6. I normally wake at 11 or 12 and test immediately. So… for me it is about 6-8 hours after eating my last meal. Hope that helps a bit. Happy Christmas. HUGS, Heidi
